Advent Children is 7-2 I just want a remake of the original 7 thats all
...and I just quoted the producer as saying that the release of Advent Children in Japan marked the end of all things FFVII.
...and I would like to shout-out a resounding 'thank
GAWD.'
Every game since VII has been a 'remake,' except IX -- and even that was a throw-back.
In fact, the whole company has gone tits-up since Sakaguchi-san left, like the well has gone dry -- doing sequels/prequels (X-2, Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core), remakes/rehashes (XII International, Lion Wars, THREE remakes of each of the pre-VII games) or just plain crap (FFX, Dissidea, Crystal Chronicles). It's like they have no good, original ideas. FFXI and XII are about the only things decent to come in the series from the post-creator era at "Squenix," and even those are just...meh.
Now, maybe my tastes as a gamer have changed and/or my perceptions have been colored by some good experiences in interactive-storytelling with non-JRPG RPGs like Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect, but I (for one) can't be compelled to push some droll, cringe-inducing, sissy-pantsed moppet (or as it were, a group of them) along their quest from cut-scene to whiney, drawn-out cut-scene while wincing at the 'dialogue' and snoozing through summon animations. "Ooo, look, some jewel-obsessed evil corporate conglomerate is unleashing beasties on our degenerate, steam-punk world and only a ragtag band of eccentric, rebellious, twenty-something quasi-terrorists can prevent Armaggedon." Joy.
[BTW, that plot summary was about FFVI, but if you thought it was about VII or XIII I could forgive you since
they're the same exact fucking thing.]
/end rant
Anyways, I wouldn't hold my breathe on any more FFVII games any time in the foreseeable future.
