IYour last sentence says it all, those who believe the army on the streets will improve security and liberty in the long term need look no further than any number of African and Asian nations for evidence of why that is dangerous thinking.

Many of my countrymen can't find Africa or Asia on a map, let alone grasp the nuances inherent in mistakenly substituting a military force in a police role. Abu Ghraib, anyone?

I can remember the weeks immediately after 9/11 there were plenty of National Guard troops patrolling airports in battle fatigues and toting M-16s. It was intended to be an impressive display of force but was mostly a cheap ruse to calm the jittery public. Not to take away from the NG troops' dedication, but let's be honest. They just aren't trained or equipped for close quarters combat in airport terminals or the like.

The idea of using regular military troops for security duty inside the U.S. is a bad solution in seach of a problem. Apparently it appeals to some wingnuts.

Does anyone think the supreme court will overturn this? I mean what's the purpose? If states need help, they ask, right? So why does the white house need the ability to move without being asked? This walks all over states rights. Still, the right thing doesn't always happen.

No, why would they? If you could have supreme power over land, and powerless people, and you were corrupt, wouldn't you?

The purpose is control, and ultimate power over the people. Further devistation of the Middle Class, and driving a massive wedge between the rich and the poor.

Why does the White house feel the need to move without being asked?
Oh Come on guy.... If you were pulling off a Massive Scam to make you a trillionaire would you ask the people your screwing over if it was ok??
This walks over Everyone's rights. Unfortunately the rich alot of time are so caught up in their greed that they don't care. The middle class and lower class are stuck trying to fix a system that continues to crumble.

In the scheme of things....I think the US took a sizeable step towards total economic collapse if this goes through.

Pull your money out while you still can.....

Pull your money out while you still can.....

Unfortunately it's not that easy.

And I'm getting tired of buying puts to hedge myself, and selling calls to pay for the puts. After a while the odds (and the vig) catch up to you.

So if the US economy is going to collapse, I'd prefer it to happen sooner, or MUCH later.

What's so surprising is that this has all been so blatant. Big Dirge isn't a "wingnut" really, or probably even very "far out" for his party's positions. The schism between us and them is growing, and iot seems (to this observer) to be a basic difference in opinion in what constitutes reality.

To me, religion plays a major role in all of this, especially fundamentalism, in any religion. Once people accept as factual reality things that are incongruent, then they've found ways to rationalise incongruent beliefs, which easily transfers to other areas. There are differences between the moral truths found in the Bible, and the necessity for the exact facts to be historically true. Most sane people understand that these writings were not written down until many decades after the death of Jesus, and the likelihood of exact quotations is extrememly small. Still, we hear people say they believe in the Bible, exactly as it is written. Well, I'd feel a whole lot better about hearing that if they KNEW the first bloody thing about HOW it was written, when it was written or why. They don't, and it pisses me off.

So we have a massive portion of the population whose Holy fervor has been aroused by these pop-topics of abortion and gay marriage, and all of a sudden, they are incapable of determining that their leaders are using their fervor and passion to pass laws against the good of the human race as a whole, and America specifically.

None of these fucktards are going to take responsibilty for supporting these collapses of freedom, because they really can't understand how they are connected. We are all paying for the stupidity of the American people- and I mean the whole world. George Bush will be remembered as a tyrant, once those who stand to gain financially are no longer writing the legacies. That is cold comfort to us living now, but it is undeniable to anyone who can look outside their own beliefs to the writings of history. The next generation won't give a fuck about some war-mongering fool who granted positions of power to his incompetent friends and shot holes into the fabric of the Constitution. Fuck that guy, and everyone who allowed this to happen. Fuck the republicans who aren't taking responsibility still.
Fuck the religious, who with their "best intentions" are still allowing atrocities to occur.
