How do you handle people who fish for compliments?

Personally something about them just irritates me to the core of my being and makes me want to cut them down. I usually dont. Usually.

I see this on Facebook ALL THE TIME!!!! Either you ignore them or give the direct opposite response to what they want to hear, then call them out for fishing.

Here's an example with a fake Facebook status:

"Suzy Q is sad today because nobody loves her or thinks she's pretty enough."

My response: "Don't do that. Don't expect people to lavish you with compliments because you put out a depressing status. We know you're pretty, we also know that you know you're pretty. And that's the last time I'm saying that until you believe it yourself. Otherwise, you give me no choice but to agree with you. Love ya!"

..... And that should be a good slap in the face to anyone.

    gawd i HATE the whining!
''i'm so fat.'' is the most common one. cue all their mates telling them how slim & pretty the are.
all you're doing is training them to look at their faults by rewarding it.
    i ignore that shit.
there's nowt wrong with being aware of your faults but using them to get compliments is lame.

I can't think of anyone who is constantly fishing for compliments. OTOH, if I sense a friend is in an insecure moment from time to time and needs a pick me up, I am glad to give them one.

Someone who constantly fishes for compliments I would most likely ignore.

One of my many pet peeves...

I usually ignore then avoid anyone who is so insecure that they have to use others pity to get complements.
