The most moving of all symphonies written IMHO is the Leningrad symphony by Shostakovitch. I researched it a little and found out that it was written in the height of WWII by a Russian composer (imagine with that name that he would be Russian? ) He claimed that the stormy parts were representative of the Damage that Hitler was doing in order to get approval to have it performed in the communist state. Apparently, he was actually writing it about the damage that the communists did to his beloved Russia when they took over. It is one piece where you can tell by the music what his intentions are. It is light, airy and dignified then stormy but you can actually hear the will of the Russian people and determination to make it through played throughout the entire piece in the background. This is just my ramblings, it would likely sound more appealing if you read a breakdown of the music by somebody who knew what they were talking about.
Aside from that there is also Gabrelli and his music for pipe organ and brass (that should make at least 2 people here nod in agreement.)
I would have to look at some of the other songs on the list, but for now you have my strongest recommendation.
