Hurricane Ian cut a path directly through our area last night and into the morning and did a number on us with flooding. We evacuated to a hotel with some family members yesterday beforehand and at this time, the hurricane is now a tropical storm and the rain has finally stopped but we will still have to stay here till tomorrow as a lot of the roads are underwater and impassable.

The only thing we know so far is the community where said family lives is flooded and they couldn't go home anyway and their house more than likely has water damage. Where our son lives is flooded and without power and he can't even drive out of his neighborhood. The biggest question mark is our house and neighborhood, though more than likely there is massive flooding there too even if there's no wind damage, but we do know for certain there is no power which always happens every hurricane anyway.

So right now I'm stuck in this hotel, stressed out as I might have to wait another day at the earliest, to find out about our home and especially our furbabies who we had no choice but to leave behind. If something happened to them, I'll never forgive myself. Right now, I'm just this close to taking a chance and venturing out to check on them, though I'd likely not get very far by all the flood reports.

Sorry to go on a tangent, but despite having been through so many hurricanes, this is by far the worst our area has experienced, though so many people statewide are likely even worse off and are going to have to live with the aftermath for a long time to come. Hopefully throughout the day I'll find out more concrete info about our neighborhood since at least the area where the hotel is has power and internet access. Once we do get home (if we still have it), I'll likely be offline for several days till power is restored.

To all my fellow Floridian members here, hope you are all safe and undamaged.

Fuck hurricanes.

Take care my friend and be safe in the aftermath. I hope the damage to you and your loved one's homes is not too extensive and can be repaired quickly. I hope your fur babies were able to find shelter and came through unharmed other than being scared. If something bad happed to your fur babies take heart that you had no choice in leaving them behind. You will miss them, but you have the memories of them. If you lost them, you could replace them with new fur babies in their memory. To all the Floridian members I hope you are all safe with minimal or no damage.

Thank you for your words of concern and sorry it took me awhile to reply to your post as we've just gotten power back yesterday so I've been using my online time sparingly the past few days. Aside from minor cosmetic damage, our property made it through yet another hurricane and all our kitties are ok, if not somewhat initially traumatized. I'm really surprised we didn't get any structural flood damage, but other family members weren't as fortunate with parts of their house. The water still hasn't completely receded in their community making access along some streets dicey for vehicles low to the ground.

Unfortunately, other parts of the state didn't get off as lightly, so I never like to play up my relative good luck when so many others are suffering and when one combines climate change with poor economic and environmental planning prevalent in a deep red state, I know these hurricanes are only going to get worse and one day that luck will run out.
