That's what happens when you centralise all the money, it gets wasted by the elites and their chums. We call this 'champagne socialism' in the UK, not sure if the U.S use that term.
Edit to add: This is why I prefer a system that redistributes surplus funds to individuals. Then, if they wanted to spend it on schools, hospitals and education for the poor they could do so directly, not pray that the state is going to do it for them.

Well, if it's Fannie & Freddie they want to talk about, then maybe they should also look at where the money was coming from -

And why wouldn't the government pay the legal fees for Fannie & Freddie? They're owned by the FHFA and in the process of potentially suing banks for selling fraudulent loans on their behalf.
