and have no interest in commitment or monogamy have been getting married. So I guess letting gays get married isn't anything new.

I guess the OP was too lazy to find out exactly why DOMA was before the Supreme Court in the first place. If a four decade partnership is having no interest in commitment or monogamy, how long would they need to be together?

I'm fully aware of the troll status of the OP.

They were married for about 3 years...

I also support a gradual phase out of the inheritance tax for straight folks as well. It bugs me when a 25 year old floozy marries an 80 year old who croaks a few years later and she gets everything free of inheritance tax.

And I find it funny that liberals are so happy that someone who inherited a multimillion dollar estate is not going to have to pay taxes on it.

As usual your kind tell half-truths.

They may have only been "married" for three years because that's when it became a legal option for them but they have BEEN TOGETHER FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS.

you're a tool who's insidious hatred should be banned

KNOTTBROOKE notwithstanding. period. the truth is this a great day for the USA, first amendment rights, the GLBT population in general and ms. Windsor in particular.

haters will continue to hate, but as their circle grows smaller, they will eventually turn inward to question their own validity.

they are showing their true colors. and the sight is not pretty, nor is it truly American.

Being "together" is not marriage.

And like all gay people, they were never monogamous, committed, or in love... It was all about the money to these old harpies.

Absolutely true. Being together is not marriage. This is true.

However, being in a monogamous, committed relationship for decades *is* a special thing, whether recognized or not as marriage.

I don't know enough about this specific couple to comment on their relationship, but your "all gay people" comment seems awfully absolute. As we each should have learned as children, words like all and never are rarely correct.

What are you even doing here? You clearly have a hate agenda against gay people, stating that as a class they do not love or commit to their partners the way that straight people do.

Edie Windsor did not have a pile of disposable income or savings; both she and her wife worked regular jobs. It happened that their home had increased dramatically in value over the long years they were a couple, and the federal government did not recognize her right to inherit her share of it the way it does with straight married couples. It treated them like roommates. Windsor didn't know how she was going to pay the massive bill from the IRS; she suffered a heart attack a month later. The State of New York recognized the spousal deduction on inheritance, but the federal government did not honor New York's recognition of marriage. Now it does.

I grew up poor and am a single mom of 2 kids. My vendetta is against rich people. If the Supreme Court ruled that luxury yachts were exempt from sales and property tax, I would be equally pissed. Sorry, but if you die with millions of dollars in assets you are rich.

Wouldn't a more rational reaction involve being happy for the rich people, and aspiring to become rich yourself? In other words, build yourself up, instead of tearing others down.

Your reaction illustrates a very deep seated hatred, which can be categorized as a mental or emotional problem. I would suggest that you deal with these issues, and if you're not up to doing it by yourself, that you seek help.

There might even be an LPSG member who could assist you.

Well, I'm with you on that one ... I hate rich people too.

But I still say you're wrong to assume gay people are rich. I know plenty of gays and lesbians who are struggling. Maybe it's more of an urban vs. suburban thing. If the only gays you know own houses in an upscale family neighborhood, then sure, they've probably got money.

Can we all reflect on how correct I was in my initial assessment of Knot? Clearly a troll, and thankfully has been banned.

And Slurp, what is "her" kind here?
