Liz Trotta & Huckabee make two of the most blatant comments about the possible assassination of Obama. Yet, Clinton's comments about RFK are fiercely spun by the media and her haters to make it appear that what she said was worse... and people on both sides, Republican & Democrat buy into it.

The difference is that Trotta and Huckabee made unscripted verbal gaffs. Hillary's campaign manufactured this line and used it as a talking point repeatedly... Liz and Mike were speaking off of the cuff and Clinton had memorized her bit and was using it as a soft attack.

That is a HUUUUUUUGE difference!!!!!

Agree... and clinton knew that this talk was dangerous. as seen on meet the press. she made the original comment a few months ago. then two more times she referred to it, but left out the word assasination (the suggestion is someone in her camp told her to calm this rhetoric down). but in times of desperation she invoked the word once again. what is even sadder is that she actually is basically saying im staying in the race in case he dies. and then u have this nitwit making light of and laughing over something that should not be taken lightly. this man is a father to 2 daughters and a husband. its amazing how easily ppl can make inappropriate comments.

OK, every one is free to have an opinion, so IF she doesn't like OBAMA [and OSAMA, as it seams she wants the two of them dead] she can express her opinion. although it seamed to me as a mistake and not a thought opinion...

BUT that media coverage is very american. unfortunately HERE in portugal we are becomming more and more like the americans. IF anyone makes just a small mistake or says something wrong, THAT can follow you through out all of YOUR life!

as 'they' say: THAT'S LIFE! ;D

[p.s.: sorry for any english mistakes... I'm not american, so I'm not perfect! :p]

That's if you assume that what Clinton was doing was in fact hinting at Obama's assassination, and many people (including myself) don't believe that is true. Trotta & Huckabee came right out and said it. Even if they meant it as a joke, that's something a politician shouldn't joke about. If they want that kind of verbal freedom in a public eye that constantly puts image over substance, they should have become comedians instead of governmental officials.

One comment has to be actually spun into some kind of conspiracy in order to believe. The other two stick out like a cold sore on a person's face but people ignore it because a laugh track followed the comments. I understand why people are going after Hillary for this, but it's clearly a stretch so that anti-Hillary supporters can continually bash her. You'd think at this point the bashing would stop since it's almost certain she won't win the nomination. However, some people like kicking a person when they're already down.

Well, you do have a point there, there is a comparison and then there isn't a comparison. Hillary absolutely did NOT speak of Obama's assassination and they did. You are definitely right about that, I think I was getting carried away on how I (being an Obama supporter) interpreted it and associating it along with those two idiots.

What most people suspect is that Hillary was just being clever and you will admit that she is as smart as Trotta and huckabee combined right?

She knows that she can't actually come out and say it, but could hint at it rather innocently planting the seed in everyone's mind through suggestion.

I know that you believe in her and don't think that she would stoop to this level and I respect that.

In my gut I am almost dead certain that her intent was to suggest Obama being killed and play all innocent like she had no intention of doing so, it is modern day political assassination at it's finest, no pun intended.

After all, if you wanna cast the 2008 election in the 1968 election scenario. Robert Kennedy was the presumptive leader and Obama is this year's presumptive leader. Sadly, Clinton is Eugene McCarthy... although a highly respectable man, he was a doomed candidate. Of course, Humphrey won the nomination anyway, which is why I can't understand why she wanted to use the comparison...

It is a bizarre comparison anyway, with Hillary Clinton's candidacy more resembling Kennedy's actual campaign and Barack Obama's grassroots movement full of young people more closely resembling McCarthy's following. Since primaries were held in only 13 states, Humphrey actually held the delegate lead by winning the delegates in non-primary states and running favorite sons in the primaries that upset the entire balance of the democratic field. It is a shitty comparison and I can't think of why she would bring it up...

Tripod & Vinyl, can you two please take your argument back to one of the 2 fucking simultaneous threads focused entirely on Hillary Clinton's comments?

I know LPSG threads stay on topic for about as a long as a dog ignores a shiny object, but this was turning into a potentially interesting discussion about Fox News, modern American media, wider implications on the perception of the GOP, etc.

You have at least 2 other threads in which you can have your current discussion. We don't have any other threads in which we can have this one.

Well, if that EVER happens to Obama. That WILL do some serious damage. We are talkin' civil unrest. The first EVER black Presidential candidate assassinated.

Liz Trotta can say that at Fox News...but she could NEVER say that in front of a crowd of black folk...that would be the worst day of her natural born life.

If America was truly committed to knocking off threats to the 'homeland' they would immediately call in an air strike on Fox News headquarters, launch a ground assault on every station and kidnap Rupert Murdoch and send him to a secret prison. These people are evil in it's purest form. I don't think you can get any more authentic.

Now, back to the GOP, FOX News, and ritual satanism...

Spoken like a true socialist. Kinda reminds me of the chant that 'code pink' were singing and dancing to in the streets of a Chavez rally where he was calling our president a 'dictator', I think it went 'socialism or death, socialism or death'...

George Bush has endured years of remarks involving his assassination, from 'voters' to people in the media (that would mean ALL the TV networks other than fox) to 'community' leaders and it only gets a hearty nod of agreement from 'liberals'.
Fox is no more right wing than msnbc is left wing, quite moaning about it for the
Is that how your version of the world should be run? What's next a nation wide book burning of anything that doesn't pass the modern politically correct standard? Purge the world of any dissenting thought and as long as MTV thinks it's ok it is?
If you've ever called for or wished for the presidents assassination and now you're acting outraged that another unintelligent, close-minded soul has remarked similar about your candidate, well, you know the truth and you have to go to bed at night with your hypocrisy.

These people are evil in it's purest form.

No, I'd have to disagree, I'd nominate the Muslims that bury homosexuals and adulterers up to their armpits and then stone them to death as pure evil.
They have laws that make sure the rock isn't too big so they can't be killed in just a few blows, that hardly compares to someone introducing a bill into congress that would define marriage as between a man and a woman.
If those two are the same evil to you, then you have other problems my friends.
I nominate for the title as pure evil, the Muslims that rape and then hang teenage girls for dating someone from a different sect and call it an 'honor' killing.
How about the Muslim clerics that run genital mutilation 'clinics' for females, to keep them from becoming sexually aroused? Not as evil as FOX news?
How about Muslims who blow up a schoolyard of children being handed candy by coalition troops? Bill O'Reilly still worse?
How about the TV networks in Palestine who run cartoons on saturday mornings showing little children suicide bombing other little children?
No, God forbid that's evil, they just 'believe' different from us "who are we to judge how they live"
Ah, moral relativism always finds new stooges.
If you are gay- and I've posed this question to my close friends who happen to be gay and face to face, you get honest answers- would you feel safer spending a weekend at Bushs ranch in texas or Jerry Falwells house, OR , at al-qaeda of iraqs most recent safe house or walking down the street of tehran with your colors flying? Deep down you know who wants to behead you or stone you and who is merely close minded. Save the use of 'evil' for where it belongs kids.

I would never wish death upon anyone in or running for office, left or right wing, but then again I hold myself to higher standard of intelligence.

Damn I finally broke my rule of not engaging in political talk on a penis website,geez... I'm really asking for it with so many socialists on board...here come the personal attacks

Fox is no more right wing than msnbc is left wing.

That's not necessarily true, FOX runs a lot of distortions and half truths and presents it as news, they don't do it on a daily basis, but they play with the ethical boundaries much more often then MSNBC does. you right wingers are mad because Olbermann has a show that is attrecting more and more viewers. Olbermann is a rabid fighter for the truth, he is absolutely NOT a right wing idealogue... this Bush administration has just made him look like he is on the left wing. You don't need to be a liberal and a left winger to see that FOX news is full of crap as far as a "fair and balanced" news agency goes.

They are obviously not the same two evils, that is obvious. When people refer to the Bush administration as evil, they mean a banal sort of evil, not the raving villain that has a dark mustache. Inside our heads we say they are evil, but we mean someone who would do horrible things in the name of protecting the American conservative way of life. Rupert Murdoch and Co. are hell bent on waging a holy war against Muslims and have little respect for anyone who sees otherwise. the right wingers still have that Muslims are evil mentality and can't discern between Wahabism which comes from Saudi Arabia (Bush and Co.'s buddies) and normal everyday Muslims. Do you know the difference?

But your point makes perfect sense and I would rather my country be run by Republican conservatives than by Wahabists any day.

Wow, hotty, so manly and domineering... thanks for the clean-up!

Now, back to the GOP, FOX News, and ritual satanism...

He only looks manly and domineering because I allowed him to be.

Look, all I did was make a damn comment. You're the one that brought up the Liz Trotta issue and yes, I did try to link this to other stories that share the same relevance. Huckabee, Trotta & the supposed Clinton fiasco all point to a continuing fear that has been in the back of everyone's minds for decades.

What did you want everyone to do on this thread? Just say, "I agree" or "I disagree" and stop? We all know why she mentioned it. So why not look at the whole issue and not just one isolated event?

Actually, nevermind. Everyone thinks I'm crazy anyhow, plus, very few people read my posts thoroughly to see what I'm getting at. But to satisfy you, and to keep everything focused on this one, pigeon-holed event:

What she said is stupid. It's ignorant to play on the fears of the American People. And she deserves to be fired for it. Obama's "assassination" is the new & improved Gay Marriage fear of this election and Republicans know they can press this button millions of times until November.

Happy?

That's pretty much what I thought. I haven't heard anyone call for nationalizing...say...the airline industry.

But if by socialist you mean 30-hour work weeks, six-week vacations, inexpensive and incredibly efficient public transportation and universal health coverage regardless of pre-existing conditions, then count me in.

Besides, I love a good parade.

That's if you assume that what Clinton was doing was in fact hinting at Obama's assassination, and many people (including myself) don't believe that is true.

One comment has to be actually spun into some kind of conspiracy in order to believe.

You're beginning to sound as stupid as Trinity.

If someone with the intellectual acumen of Hillary Clinton wanted only to illustrate a point about extended nomination processes being precedented, then she would have stated that the race was still undecided in June of '68. She didn't do that...she made a point of specifically mentioning the front-runner being assassinated, leaving the "greater" point of the contest being unresolved (the one she now claims was the only point) entirely implied.

To contend this was unintentional or is an opposition misconstruction is mendacious douchebaggery...which, if nothing else, puts you on par with Hillary herself.
