That's not an appropriate comparison.

You defining fascist as a constant perjorative -when it is in it's correct form a well defined system of government -It was coined by Mussolini (as fascismo) and in it's purest form applies only to the system of government that ruled Italy from 1922 to 1943- and socialist as not being possible to be used as a pejorative, doesn't make any sense.

The modern usage of fascist as an epithet is what you are thinking of, much as I was USING socialist, but to try to exclusively define one by it's slang usage and one by it's proper usage is what is not appropriate.
In your circle, socialist may never be used as an epithet, but it is an accepted one amongst millions of people.

You were using it purely as a pejorative--to display contempt while expressing their perceived socioeconomic position (which you disagree with).
You're exactly right I was. So what part do you not understand?
Is this the liberal double-standard raising it's watchful head again?
Or did you merely misunderstand my semantics?

If someone used the terms "capitalist" or "conservative" against you as pejoratives, especially while misusing the words, sure, I'd call them out too.
I wouldn't expect you to, I was being a smart ass about you defending. If someone wants to use capitalist or conservative much in the same way I used socialist, the thought police might get upset, but I won't.

Que pensez-vous de mon riposte? ...but I'm really getting tired of this tangent ;)

Well, I mean, the guy just spammed the word "socialist" like it's a pejorative.

This isn't the 1950s. "Socialist" has an actual meaning.

If he had been replying to someone who was calling for Fox News to be taken over and run by the government, I could understand calling him "socialist." But he was calling for the bombing of Fox News. That's not "socialist."

Thank you. What in the world did taking Fox News out have to do with socialism? He's an idiot. If you don't know how to use a word in a sentence then don't.

If taking whacking someone you don't like is socialism then George Bush is a socialist. Duuuh.

Haha. Boy you're someone to be calling people an idiot, I knew it wouldn't be long before the pseudo-intellectuals called themselves out.
Did you even read thors response? Did you have 5 tabs open looking up pejorative, semantics, fascist and socialist? Doubt you could even follow the argument those two just had jargon.

uhhhh....i have heard of some calling for the nationalizing of....say....the health care industry.....

love socialized societies do you? (in my yoda voice)....there are plenty to chose from in this world...I will stick with capitalism...it has served me well.

I'll stick with my own voice, thanks. I've been told I sound like the love-child of Lauren Becall and Teddy Kennedy

I called for "universal health coverage regardless of pre-existing conditions", which is something currently unavailable in 49 or 50 states. This is not some cheap rhetorical point for me: I live with HIV. And where I live, private insurance is unavailable to me. Most open-enrollment, group health plans that I have looked into also have exceptions that can limit or exclude coverage of my meds and/or the testing that's required every 3-4 months.

Add to this the fact that I have a rather advanced case or degenerative disc disease in my cervical spine and that opens up another whole realm of exclusions.

Shit happens to everybody, baby. Hopefully by the time it happens to you, you'll have the benefit of universal health coverage and won't be obliged to bankrupt yourself attempting to care for it.

Thank you for illustrating exactly what's broken with this society: me, Me, ME!

Your personal healthcare experience may or may not be the bee's knees, but it's foolish to deny that the overall state of the "industry" in our nation is swirling around the bowl. Nationalization may or may not be the right answer...I'm no expert, but I can see what monetized capitalization of modern medicine has garnered us, and it isn't pretty. Throw in a heaping dose ($billions per annum) of Congressional lobbying and voila!...the average consumer not only isn't afforded the comfort of lube, he's also ball-gagged as well.

Naked capitalism is a Ponzi scheme, and sooner or later the people on the bottom will realize they're utterly fucked.

Civilized society does not function properly without the basic needs of all being met. Yes, to a certain degree, we are in fact our brothers' keeper. No man is an island. I could go on with the clichés...but if you haven't gotten the point by now, I'd be better server reading poems to a horse.

I'll stick with my own voice, thanks. I've been told I sound like the love-child of Lauren Becall and Teddy Kennedy

The NY Times did a series years ago (I linked to it at the time and few read it) called Class Matters.

One of the topics was class and health care. Three people in NY have heart attacks and have didactically different treatment experiences based soley on income and class.

You should read it (if you haven't).

Class Matters - Social Class in the United States of America - The New York Times

The entire series: Class Matters

Liz Trotta is a human piece of shit and I am SICK and TIRED of the fucking Hillary people comparing MSNBC to FOX news... there is no comparison. Just because Keith Olbermann and Chris Mathews want to call out Hillary's campaign on it's bullshit you wanna now call them the FOX of the Obama camp? You all are fucking nuts.

She actually did apologize today not that it matters. The jury already heard it.

This thread has strayed a little off topic.
I think the main point Mrs. Trotta showed was that her and ALOT of people think before they speak an let out what they truly believe. Even in a "joke" she still proved that she was ignorant enough to say it in the first place.

In order for America to really change people need to be more educated and open.

I don't know why anyone still takes fox news seriously anyway. Their only 4 or 5 IQ points higher than MTV.
Everything that comes from that channel is biased to the agenda of the highest bidder.

But in terms of the socialist-non socialist garbage.
If you are against certain forms of socialized healthcare do you not realize how much is already socialized. Live public services and school systems.
Most arguments against socialization are do to ignorance of the topic itself.
