NYT: Fox site calls Obama party a 'Hip-Hop BBQ' - politics - The New York Times - msnbc.com

“Obama’s Hip-Hop BBQ Didn’t Create Jobs,” read the headline on an article on The Fox Nation, a conservative arm of FoxNews.com, which is owned by the News Corporation. Below the headline were photos of Mr. Obama and, separately, three black celebrities who attended the party, the basketball player Charles Barkley, the comedian Chris Rock and the rapper Jay-Z.

Not pictured were any attendees of other racial backgrounds, like the actor Tom Hanks or Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago."

I've nothing to add. Besides, it sorta speaks for itself, doesn't it?

One truly wonders what gets said behind closed doors. Remember that woman in Virginia who said to John McCain, "How are we going to defeat the bitch" (referring to Hillary). I would bet the term "faggot" and worse are thrown around in both political circles in "private" --- but I must say -- since Politicians are becoming less and less aware of all that's spewing out of their mouths so that they deny EVER saying something that is recorded on tape, I don't doubt whatever slur that was MEANT to be kept in private somehow slopped over into the public forum.

35 years ago when I was a staunch Republican, a friend of mine from North Carolina told me he had re-registered as a Democrat. "Why in God's name would you do that?" I asked, "Because the North Carolina Republican Party is full of fucking racists, that's why!" And just as an aside: In the last 2 years, I have recieved more e-mails with pictures depicting the President wearing watermelon colored pants, large jewelry, you name it -- overtly stereotypical racist depictions. It's an old trick really -- when you can't argue the POINT -- resort to discrediting the PERSON!

Well last time they had a true hip-hop artist, they called him a Gangster Rapper. Remember the Common fiasco? If he's "gangster", then Lindsey Lohan is sober.

" it contained excerpts from several accounts of Mr. Obama’s party, including Politico’s, which listed the attendees and noted that the party included jazz and R&B performances and a D.J.’s hip-hop music."

I think the hip hop music played during, and danced to was what inspired the BBQ being labeled as "hip hop"

Here's my thing;

This is what a majority of people who don't label themselves as conservative think conservatives think anyway. They're racist. Or at the very least race is playing a major part in the vitriol they spew at the Administration. They can cover it up by pretending to understand so as to be against policies and legislation they couldn't comprehend if they took a full four year term at a university that only covered that issue (be it health care, government spending, job creation etc) but it's fairly apparent that all this bile isn't about his being a democrat. It's because he's a black democrat.

Is anyone surprised there are racists in the conservative half of this country? Is anyone surprised there are more than a few in congress? Does it shock or shake anyone that Fox News fuels the fires of that "outrage" (A black man is President! A politically correct reason you can be apoplectic about that fact, tonight, on Hannity!) These little gaffes by those on the right just confirm what was pretty apparent from the beginning anyway-

If you're a racist or just have bigoted tendencies (We'll call that bi-curious) and are interested in politics the, right half of this country has a spot in its ranks for you.

For the purposes of this conversation, we'll say a racist is anyone who hates first and justifies later.

"He's black!"

"I know, but we can't say we don't like a negro in the White House on the news..."

"I've got it! We'll pretend like we understand Health Care reform! We'll pick some asinine detail, misrepresent it as something its not through use of rhetoric and hyperbole and then say that is why we think he should be removed from office! Death Panels for Grandma? Socialist Agenda!? Not on my watch! Not in My America!"

"You're so smart Pa."

"That's why they pay me the big bucks at the chicken factory Ma."

Is this every conservative? Of course not. Do I think this is largely what forms the core of the tea party? I 100% do. There are plenty of legitimate disagreements one can have with the current Administration. Plenty. But from where the conversation begins on those disagreements and in what context paints a picture- if it starts out with "YOU LIE!" you've given yourself away.

It;s not the article that is the problem, it's the Headline.

Hip-Hop is played everywhere these days. It's not the 70s or 80s when the music only just pandered to a small audience, nor is it just a musical phase. It has become a form of popular music in its own right, regardless if it's Jay-Z, Blondie, Common or a group like Rage Against The Machine engaging in its mechanics. Just because a DJ spins a few Hip-Hop records doesn't mean that the event becomes a "hip-hop" party. Especially these days, considering that certain hip-hop artists have been remixed into completely different styles of music.

Without the playlist or any full recording, there's no way we can say for certain that this was a "Hip-Hop BBQ". Of course, that is not what Fox was trying to convey. That article is just part of their continued efforts to use the Southern Strategy to divide people. Because they know how politically incorrect it would have been to say there's a bunch of black people in the White House playing that "jungle music". What's funnier is that the biggest consumers of rap music (by way of purchases) continues to be young, suburban white people. So if Fox knew what they were doing (which they didn't), they wouldn't convey a message that remotely could be perceived as "cool" to a young audience who voted for Obama in droves just a few years ago. But whatever... too bad nobody is listening to Techno.
