Shepard Smith, Fox News Anchor, Abruptly Departs From Network

Often when a high-profile celebrity or news personality suddenly leaves under mysterious circumstances, the network's cover-your-ass department swings into action with an announcement, a hastily concocted and thinly plausible reason for their departure: They are going to devote more time to their family or they are taking this time to explore other avenues and ventures.

When Shepard Smith made his "retirement" speech yesterday to stunned viewers, Fox middle-management, the Murdoch kids and their old man were nowhere to be seen. There was nothing but a dignified Shepard Smith staring confidently into the camera, his mellifluous baritone steady with an almost serene smile of relief across his face that he longer had to endure anymore network anchor rivalry or workdays at a place that absurdly promotes itself as fair and balanced.

I do hope he'll talk about his 23 years at Fox and how it's morphed into what it's become and why he finally could no longer be part of it.

I would like to know what was the tipping point that made him come to this decision? Was it cumulative or was it his recent on-air fracas with Tucker Carlson as has been speculated?

Or, if he was somehow forced out, I'd like to hear about that too. From him.

Undoubtedly Shep signed both a non-compete and non-disclosure agreement with Fox. My guess is it keeps him silent through the November 2020 election-- how fortunate for Donald Trump.

The non compete clause is standard. I've seen many people in media have a sit out period when changing jobs. I don't think Smith would sign a non disclosure agreement. No other Fox talent has done that when they left, including people who settled claims against them. We will see.

That's an obvious worry. He had the experience and clout to not get "silenced" that he could openly argue against his lying prime time co workers. Even though he didn't have the audience they did at least he could point out that his own co workers routinely lie, and peddle conspiracy theories on air.

I bet he was relived to get out of there. Being gay and trying to be one of the only ones doing real news on FOX? Good lord

As Foxy News launches itself into outer space (Destination:The Twilight Zone) there is no room for "real news" anyway. Their viewers/troglodytes/xenophobes/bigots/evangelicals tune in to hear the pay-for-hate ministers of hate..Hannity, Ingram and Pirro. Maybe the Murdochs need a little fig leaf somewhere. That Barr meeting was really effective. Expect some regulatory easing to support Murdoch's penetration of the US media market anytime soon.

Anyway.....

Over the weekend, Fox News announced that it had made a new hire: John Solomon, the self-proclaimed journalist at the heart of the unfolding scandal involving Ukraine, Rudy Giuliani, and the impending impeachment of Donald Trump. It’s not hard to see why Fox executives may have wanted to bring him aboard. Solomon’s work has underpinned the entire cascade of lies the White House and Trump in particular have pushed over the past few weeks.

When will Foxy give Alex Jones a multi-million dollar contract and his own show?

Shep Smith's departure from FOX means he is still a credible journalist and can work in anywhere in the future. Sad that FOX News viewers will almost never see truth and facts onthe netwrok with him gone.

In the end, Trump will even ruin FOX, good of Shep to get out before going down with the ship.

I wonder if Bill Barr was part of the interview process?

Is the next target Chris Wallace? Totally makes sense as Fox News drops all pretense of being a new organization and grabs the title of America's Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda with Rupert Murdoch playing the role of Joseph Goebbels.

Fox News departure: Catherine Herridge joins CBS News, saying 'facts matter'

New York (CNN Business)In another major defection from the newsroom of Fox News, Catherine Herridge is joining CBS News as a senior investigative correspondent.

Herridge, Fox's chief intelligence correspondent, was a founding employee of Fox News in 1996 and a leader in the network's Washington bureau. She was in talks to join CBS before Shep Smith, also a founding Fox employee, resigned on October 11 in the middle of a multi-year contract, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.

Exactly. FACT'S MATTER. That is, to anyone with ANY sense of self-respect, decency and INTEGRITY.

The authoritarian smear campaign against Alexander Vindman.
Trump’s defenders say anyone who stands up to [Trump] is a traitor. They’re dead wrong.

Supporters of Donald Trump are attacking Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the National Security Council officer who testified this week about Trump’s extortion of Ukraine.

These supporters, including former elected officials, are insinuating that Vindman—who was born in Ukraine but immigrated to the United States as a child and earned a Purple Heart in Iraq—is working against our country.

The smears are vile, but they’re only half the story. They expose a deeper pathology: the authoritarian mindset of Trump’s surrogates. In this cultish worldview, Trump’s personal interests are identical to the interests of the United States, and anyone who interferes with Trump is anti-American.
