I just read that they feel his death was due to severe fatigue. What a tragedy.

Some of the other competitors have blamed his death on race conditions. Apparently, the temp of the water was at least 85 degrees and fluctuated throughout the day. Many thought the race would be called off due to the water temperature. Swimming 10 kilometers in 85 degree weather? No way...

    Very sad.

Putting people through idiotically harsh conditions is negligent.
