Frat Life

The truth is that fraternities are extremely homophobic not homoerotic institutions. I was (and still am as an alumni) in one of the largest fraternities in North America. I have seen gay brothers chased out or ostracized and ridiculed for coming out. Don't believe what you see for a second about fraternities in gay porn. It's pure fantasy and nothing else.

Nothing homoerotic about my initiation. I was naked a little or pants down a few times, but nothing enjoyable about it. Once it was younger guys baring all to me it still wasn't erotic in any way. Not sure how common my experience was, but nothing like porn.

I was naked less for my initiation weekend than I am in the locker room after a workout. Because there was a large number of guys in my pledge class, the only time I got naked was to take my turn in the shower (single stall) before the initiation ceremony. Because the bathroom was very small, I took off my clothes in the basement, walked up the stairs naked, took my shower, came back downstairs naked and got dressed. At my Y, I take off my clothes at my locker, walk naked to the open shower (I don’t see the point in wrapping a clean towel around my sweaty body to walk to the open shower), take my shower in the open shower with other naked dudes, and then walk naked back to my locker. Really, I’m naked more at my Y now than I ever was for my initiation weekend.

I want to share similar experience when I joined a national fraternity while in college. Although there were quite a number of my "brothers" that were good looking, I kept guarded of my feelings and attractions toward them. It wouldn't be the same if they found out. Based on my "gaydar" back then, I can picked out 1 or 2 guys that were likely gay.

It was a lots of works, not just partying, we did community services, fund raising and involved in many school sponsored/related events. But we always ended up had fun along the way.

My initiation night was kind of a series suspense events as I didn't know what to expect, I just went along just doing what I was told, but still it's something I'll never forget.

Ditto. I was hot for a couple of guys in my pledge class - 1 in particular. He was so stunningly good looking that all of the guys used to tease him about being a pretty boy relentlessly. I did have the opportunity to get naked with him, but that was after a workout in the open shower at his gym years after we graduated. I had no gaydar whatsoever. Four guys (that I know of possibly more) came out after graduation because again fraternities are homophobic, not homoerotic. It made sense because they were never chasing the sorority girls like the rest of us were, never had girlfriends or one night stands with girls, were never trying to pick girls up, and never really talked about girls in general. One brother came out while still active, and he came out to the worst guys possible - total homophobic rednecks. He was literally chased out of the fraternity. Does anyone still think what they see happening in porn really goes on in a fraternity?

Same with my fraternity. Most if not all fraternities have philanthropy as part of their core values.

Same with my fraternity. Nothing sexual, just suspenseful because you didn't know what was going to happen next. Lots of cool initiation ceremonies that didn't involve any nudity or sexuality.

This is good, although we've never met, but our experience in fraternities are the same. For me, there were a few very good looking guys in my fraternity, in fact, that was one main reason I joined that fraternity.

I heard a couple of times that going through pledging period used to be a lot more difficult and used to include more homo stuff than how's it like today. Frat life in general used to be more hardcore... but a series of "scandals" forced colleges to clamp down on frats and their traditions.

Yeah, there is nudity during pledging and initiation ceremonies, yeah, there is (some) homo stuff. Depends on the house, I guess. Generally, members and alumni shouldn't be talking about details, besides, a lot of houses decide on new recruitment process every year.

As for frats being homophobic... yeah, I could agree, but that's directed mainly towards dudes acting gay or coming out as gay. It doesn't rule out homo stuff happening in the frat among other guys.

uhm...

I've done some preliminary research on fraternity culture for a possible nonfiction book and my findings was that the type of experiences had depended more so on the region of the country than any other possible variables and also as noted earlier, the decade/time frame in question is clearly relevant.

I.E. the "elephant walk" was not an "urban legend" but was a pretty typical hazing activity that occurred in the 1970's-1980's, mostly in the southern states. Evidenced by numerous photos of the activity occurring which predated the faux frat porn by decades.

The state of Texas in the 1980's was a bastion of homeoerotic fraternity behavior apparently that was said to have been based on referencing such figures as Darwin, Sigmund Freud etc, "Survival of the Fittest", mentality and there are multiple credible stories partially due because of some famous frat alumni i.e. Jon Hamm (well known for his horse cock), matthew mcconaughey etc re: stories of pledges being told to strip down naked, handed a ruler for measuring and when the pledge master / brothers were to return = all of the pledges were to be lined up based on erection size, subsequently the couple guys with smallest wieners were immediately excused and asked to leave and the gentleman with the largest appendage was given a "fireman's hat" for having the "biggest hose " for instance and the hierarchy was set in place, based on cock size and likely that pledge bro rises up to become President of the Fraternity House.

However, based on my research, I've not found any other region besides Texas that did this sorta cock based sizing contest.
