I spent some time in a subculture where many people were raised with/easily adopted a menstruation taboo. This is aside from family purity laws within my sect of Judaism. That’s a whole other layer of WTFery.
I am so private in person about it, that I felt separating menstruating women for certain tasks (cooking being the main one) drew MORE attention to their cycles.
I’m giving Utah a pass for a bit. Mitt may believe corporations are people, but he bucked his party during the impeachment vote, and outlined why. I’m feeling compassion.
I’d love to see these products covered by TANF, WIC and other programs.
I also would like to see condoms covered. You’d think dudes would be onboard for that.
Math goof. But it’s good news.Post Edit Window: Romney is banking on the Republican pendulum swinging away from Trump-mania. Same way after 8 years of Clinton we got Bush, after 8 years of Obama we got Trump.
After Trump is forcibly removed from Office, hopefully in November *probably in 2026 cuz all the crazy bastards with the guns and insanity are on his side* Republicans, or whatever nomadic raider clan lays claim to the elephant, will go Anti-Trump/Evangelical support.
Math goof. But it’s good news.
Election in 2020. Inauguration (NOT a re-inauguration, please g-d) in 21. Next presidential election in 2024. At worst it’s 2025.
I wish this was more of a thing everywhere. Period products are fucking taxed in all but what, five states? Plus things like snap and ebt wont allow you to purchase them with the funds. Come. The. Fuck. On. My vagina bleeding is NOT a luxury. I don't like having to wear a pad or shove something up my snatch every month to keep from free bleeding on every surface I touch.Saw this, wanted to share. Right on, Scotland.

Freebies offered by the government are never free and never good.
I was thinking the same thing. A group of friends took up a collection of sanitary products for deployed service women after reading an article about high rates of all sorts of women's pelvic diseases/issues that were related to cheap government products. Imagine having to worry about this shit while being forward deployed. No effing way!Freebies offered by the government are never free and never good.

Beyond that, I have found what brands work best for me and my body... and they're never available in ladies room dispensers/courtesy baskets. Would it be awesome to not have to pay for those? Yes. But given the choice of using free stuff that doesn't work as well/isn't as comfortable or paying for what works for me, I'd probably buck up.
Not everyone has the luxury of choice.
ETA: ya local charities and out reach programs are always hurting for feminine hygiene products.
I could not agree with this more. Tax dollars going to actually HELP people is far more desirable than paying for anything sir cheeto does. Not everyone has the luxury of choice. For some people a shoddy product is better no product.
Also. Tax Dollars for Tampons before I help fund one more fucking trip to Mar-a-Largo for The Orange Tyrant and his fester-pit spawn.

It's Scotland's prerogative, and good on them BUT, as a working woman who can afford to buy these kinds of products, i'd rather keep paying for them, and see free packets donated to homeless shelters and women's shelters. First help the ones who need help.
Personally I don't think any brand should charge citizens, I would be thrilled if it was just considered part of our regular healthcare needs and would be covered on a single payer, Medicare for all system. Access to the same quality product with no out of pocket cost. Makes sense to me.
I'm a working woman. I can "afford" them, BUT... having one group who "can afford" them spend money on it means the "free" products *will* be shitty. Everyone pools together and we get the same quality products available to *everyone*.
Even if I was a single man with no kids, I'd support my tax dollars going towards this.
