Mentally ill patients kill one person a week - despite being deemed no risk to the public, a report reveals today.
More than 400 people have been murdered in the past eight years by patients released into the community for treatment, according to the Department of Health inquiry
Almost a third were committed only a week after patients were freed.
Meanwhile, 25 mentally ill people a week take their own lives. Charity Sane said "red alert" signs in patients were not being spotted.

I was reading this today. It's so shocking that the mentally ill and society as a whole are being so let down by the health care professionals.

Care in the community has been a total disaster !
All the former "asylums" are now luxury flats ....

I know, one of my friends worked for a few years in Rampton and is currently a community mental health nurse. She's been saying for years that the situation is getting worse, that very few people are better served living in the community as opposed to mental health units. She says she's been responsible for caring for very vulnerable patients on a 2 hour per week basis, if that. It's just not enough!!

It is no better for the mega-rich and famous either .
The Priory has been slammed for several "mishaps" including the photographer, Bob Carlos Clark walking under a train while on suicide watch as an in patient !
    Bedlam, indeed.
The majority of rough sleepers, prison inmates, etc are psychiatrically very ill .
They have NO rights and cannot campaign for better treatment(s).
Mental health issues are swept under the carpet and, like the elderly, are viewed as self-inflicted and unpopular charitable causes .
Give to the puppies and kittens, etc...

It is no better here in the US. I don't know the exact percentages, but I know it is over half of the number of beds in facilities no loger exist. Since the increase in the use of psychotropic drugs to treat mental illness, the theory is that the mentally ill can "medicate themselves, therefore don't need to be institutionalized". States have been cutting the budgets for mental health by larger and larger percentages since the Reagan administration. At least half of the homeless people I have ever encountered on the streets had some form of very obvious mental illness. Some exibited every symptom of pschizophrenia I have ever learned. Many of them violent. Some sociopaths---yet they are deemed to be "healthy enough" to not need treatment. I guess by throwing them out on thr streets, the powers that be hope they won;t be able to survive, and thus will solve the problem by atrition. Don't kid yourself, boys and girls--we are well on our way to the 14th century.......

Could aggressive responses to font face choice be considered an indicator of mental instablity? Especially when combined with a lack of proper capitalisation and a religious overtone.:tongue:

Don't be such a party pooper, david. Think of all the money saved that would otherwise have been spent for taxes to fund adequate public care facilities.

You could take a trip to Fiji with that money.

Why the intolerance to someone else's font choice ?
I was also attacked for mistakenly posting the same item twice ....
