I know on one of my board we purged the membership.. anyone who hadn't logged on for a year got deleted. I'm not sure if LPSG has the same policy.. but it might help free up a little bit of space.

Yeah, there are WAY too many people here who signed up then never came back.

I don't think they do, but it is an excellent idea.
I seem to recall someone saying in chat a while back that they were one of the original members and had a lifetime membership. I'm sure there are many of those lifers lingering on the boards and for legal reasons it would be difficult to purge them from the membership.

Well of course.. you wouldn't want to get rid of those ones... but look at all the people who signed up, never posted, never came back? We have 30,000 active members... out of 100,000 ish..

    Think_Kink,

I'll free up some space for you (he says as he takes his glasses off and brushes his hands across his cheeks) :veryhappy:

I look forward to your killer grip on my tongue

Is there some technological reason why LPSG should do this? I thought that the site would only be stressed by large numbers of people being logged on at the same time - but you aren't contemplating a purge of active members...

It helps some to delete all your old pm's and sent messages. I did that weeks ago. You'd be surprised how many you have stored in your sent folder.

If I'm not mistaken, members used to be able to request that their profiles be deleted, and all their old posts went into one generic account (the "Guest" profile), but that no longer happens. I would imagine that it won't ever happen anymore, either, since I believe it was under the current board owner that this stopped happening. Also, whole posting histories will never be deleted, simply because it would cause too much confusion in threads to have missing posts, as has been said a few times by the mods. This (deleting posts) also used to happen in the past, because members had an unlimited edit and delete time on their posts, which, if you ever come across some of the older threads, does indeed cause a bit of confusion in the threads.

No particular reason... just free up some space... I didn't know the site was only stressed by large amounts of logged in members though...

Why would we delete active members silly? :p

Deleting active members would be the only way to free up bandwidth. People who register and never post don't take up any space. Why bother deleting them?

I figured since they did register it takes up some space... meh oh well.
