Anybody know what the criteria is for joining the Freemasons?, is it a secret society?.

Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest secular fraternal societies. The following information is intended to explain Freemasonry as it is practised under the United Grand Lodge of England, which administers Lodges of Freemasons in England and Wales and in many places overseas.

Freemasonry is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values. Its members are taught its precepts by a series of ritual dramas, which follow ancient forms, and use stonemasons' customs and tools as allegorical guides.

There was a thread on this this past winter, it seems we have a member here who is, but he is keeping pretty mum about the whole organization.

I've always assumed it's just a drinking club for men. And a way of networking and meeting the "right" people.

It's girl guides for big boys.

I think you have to be nominated for membership and then accepted by the lodge. Went out with a freemason once... total cock!

No problem, it's an interesting topic, maybe it will get more play than the last time.

I always think it's a bit like the hellfire club... all that bizarre ritualistic stuff they do.

You always hear about some mason getting up to no good, but he knows the right lawyers, judges, police officers to get it hushed up.

    Very odd!

Being a member of the craft, you must be free born, of lawful age ( 21 y/o ) and you must seek membership. You'll want to find a lodge or a member, and ask them. They will check you out, and vote you in or out, as the case may be. It is NOT a drinking club, it's a fraternal organization for the betterment of mankind and community. If voted in, you will take part in initiation rituals which have been taken by every member since the beginnings of the order during the building of the great European cathedrals. Interesting history, do a bit of research on it. DO NOT give any regard to the freaks who think we're part of the "new world order", or trying to take over the government... there's no merit to it. Hope this helps, email me and let me know how it goes ?

ps - that whole "betterment of mankind and community" thing isn't going so well is it. Ah well, let's give them a bit longer, after all, it takes more than several hundred years right? lol

Denise, show me another charitable organization that donates upwards of 1 million dollars a DAY in various capacities, THEN comment. Imagine what it would be like if we didn't........we prefer to do our work and stay out of the news, by the way. Do some research, you'll be surprised.

Frankly Denise, I think you are out of line. Tardis started a post, someone with some knowledge has been nice enough to give some information and your remarks have been very unsavory.

Well I cannot be held responsible for your misinterpretation of my words.

Anyone would think I'd accused them of being a paedophile ring or something.

I joked about the "betterment of mankind and community" thing because in the several hundred years since it was set up mankind and community has taken a nose-dive down the toilet. Has it not? I did not, however, blame them for that!

I'd really rather you didn't apologise on my behalf, I'm a big girl I can manage myself.

UCB I apologise if you were offended by my words, that was not the intention at all. It was a comment on the state of the world, not the masons. Sorry x
