I was wondering if there's anyone on LPSG who identifies themselves as a free mason.

I doubt anyone will talk openly about freemasonry, I'm just curious.

You might try doing a search. I think we had a thread a while back about the Masons. I seem to remember one of our members is a Mason.

    Yup.
And there may have been more recent ones, too.

A writer friend of mine was working on a book project that dealt with the free masons. She has done extensive research about them here in the united states.

    Interesting subject.

You might be interested in this book. I heard the author interviewed on a radio show I listen to every day.

I find free masonry interesting because its so steeped in paganism and pagan ritual, I'd be interested in knowing if the Freemasons aknowledge where their rituals come from or if like the christian church they deny the fact that most of their workings use pagan symbology, refernce and history

The Freemasons are an organization with which I am familiar. There are many Freemasons on this board. Few people discuss this simply because it is a private part of the lives of those who belong and participate. The Freemasons and Shriners are among the largest fund raisers and charity workers in the world. Their rituals are known to them as are the originations of those rituals. There is another thread here on this same subject somewhere and it has a number of responses as well. A good idea would be to read that thread. Also, remember that many writing about Freemasonry write with a pre-conceived viewpoint and then try to justify it. I have personally seen the work of the Masons and Shriners and what they have done with no strings attached. All I will say is that these are both great organizations.
