A lifestyle change is required. Well, it's more an issue on how to change your eating habits.
I was almost 250 summer of 2018. I knew I was pushing the scales, but since I am very tall, I hid it well. Back pain was the final straw. I knew I needed to do something.
It starts by eating less. Not necessarily starving yourself, but just having smaller servings. No carbonated drinks, unless it's seltzer. Black coffee / tea. Lots of water. When I started, I'd lose a pound or two a week; maybe 6-8 pounds a month. Some months, I actaully gained a bit back - vacation. Then I simply started doing some push ups, crunches, and barbell exercises. Rode the bicycle when time / weather permitted. After six months, I lost enough weight that I ran out of belt holes, and could stick my fist down the waist of my pants and still have plenty of slack. My weight-loss has slowed in recent months, but I attribute that to (slightly) bigger arms and shoulder muscles. I still want to lose more around the mid-section, but am not going to starve and gym-rat myself to do it, simply because I know that I won't keep that pace going, and will gain it back.
I am in the mid 190's now. Maybe 10# to go. It may not come as quick as you want, but slow and steady wins the race. Once you start eating less, you'll notice a change in appetite, and it becomes MUCH easier to "not eat" a lot.
This summer, when friends and family saw me more naked (and not in bulky winter clothes), they fears I was suffering from cancer or something. I had to reassure them all was well, and it was all planned. I thanked them for noticing the loss in weight, and simply told them what I wrote above; it's all about portion control and simple exercise.
I still drink beer. I still have my wings. I still have pizza. But I no longer have the desire to eat half a pie. I no longer drink soda or even diet soda. Water; black coffee; beer; whiskey. Air-popped popcorn as a snack. Reasonable dinners. I am not a breakfast person. I wish you luck. Take it slow, and it will be easier to continue to maintain the lower weight once you do lose it. There are no shortcuts.
