So 06/12/13 was day 12 past due for my electric bill. Yep my fault, just never got around to paying it. But I mean, I figured "ah well just pay a late fee no biggie"

WRONG. Set on my way to the bank to make a deposit around 09:00, on the way called and made the payment for electric. Went and got my hair cut, having a decent day getting ready for vacation.

Around 2 O' clock the wife comes in, "PECO is outside!". I casually go outside to see whats going on, and this big burly dude is at my meter. I said "hey, what's going on?". He replies "your being shut off". Now I am completely stunned. I am rarely late on the bill and never more than 10-15 days when I am. I said to him, "The bill is paid!". He says, "that's not my job, I have an order to shut it off". So the wife convinces him to call and confirm the bill has been paid. He calls. It's paid. Still, electric is turned off.

We never received a shutoff notice, phone call, or even a past due notice! I paid the bill BEFORE the man came to cut it, and he even CONFIRMED it! I paid the bill, and the late fee PRIOR to any idea I was endanger of losing power.... then I had to pay a reconnect fee!!!!

Now I am facing 72 hours without power. Paid.

I will certainly never again be late with the power bill, but I mean come on!
I always pay. And they should be happy if I'm a few days late because they get the fee!

It's very aggravating. Had I received a shutoff notice it would have been paid that day.

They 'said' they did send a 10 day notice. If so they would have sent it 2 days after it was due!

They are the monopoly here, I have no other options for company choice so this is where I'm venting.

Thanks for listening

If the bill is paid and they still cut you off then they are liable. They had every opportunity to call off the guy send to cut you off, even at the time of his arrival when you explained the situation.Get back to the company and threaten them with legal action.

What Superbot said ^. There should always be a second notification from utility suppliers before power supply is terminated to a property.

Ouch. Consider the collateral costs here as well, should you decide to go after them. I am sure you can't be pleased about the prospect of replacing spoiled foods, or the inconvenience in-general. Good luck to you!

It is a monopoly. To make money. They would love to cut everybody off. Then earn capital gains of reconnection. They don't care if you paid. There a bunch of mindless robots with no compassion. Or very little. To the power company, gas company we are just another number. It's an expensive lesson to learn, thats why i'm always on time with my bills.
