Hi I live in southern Spain and work in the Malaga airport as a flight dispatcher, always outside on the tarmac with aircraft. It's extremely hot and sweaty work. I've developed a fungus infection in my groin area. It's in the skin area and I have it on some of my pubic hair, a white substance. The farmacist said it's common in hot climates and especially under my work conditions. Gave me cream to get rid of it. Has anyone else had this? I shower at least twice a day, clean boxer briefs each day etc. Don't know if I'm best shaving the pubic hair in that area. It appears that the actual infection is in the skin but also attached itself to pubic hair. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

I assume you were prescribed something that works for jock itch. These preparations are also good to relieve athletes foot. I would suggest switching to looser underwear (perhaps boxers). This would allow more airflow.

Yes I think its very similar. The farmacist advised to wear only cotton underwear. I wear boxer briefs which are quite loose fitting in groin. I'm making sure I totally dry the area after showering, clean towel each time. Then apply the cream.

We have an anti-fungus liquid soap here that you can pick up in the pharmacy, usually in the foot-care section. It contains tea tree oil amongst other things. You could use it in the shower a couple times a week as a preventative measure. Wait until you’ve finished with the cream the doc gave you.

This is very common, so go to you doctors and ask for cream (if he had not given it to you) called Terbinafine 1% cream x 30mg or the Spanish equivalent look it up on the internet. This is an excellent treatment for this medical condition.

Dont bother to shave yourself mate, as this does not work and will cause you to sweat even more down there, so once you shower or bath, ensure that you dry yourself properly with towel in your groin area. Also to ensure that you are extra dry, you can use a hair dryer on warm then cool setting to ensure that you are complete dry down then. (Sound silly I know but it works)

Then apply the cream on the dried area and avoid wearing sweat pant, jeans etc and stick to cotton underwear, Shorts/trousers. You should also apply the cream again at night without gong through the showering process though, and this should clear up the infection.

Thereafter once the infection is cleared up, use athletes foot powder after you shower following the same process as above. Unfortunately this condition can reoccur and if you have athletes foot that tends to occur at the same time.

Wear baggy overalls with nothing underneath?
The company uniform is shirt, cotton/polyester trousers security boots and a hi viz waistcoat. I've had a week vacation last week and the infection has gone but I will continue to apply the cream for an extra few days to be sure.
