Are there any active members who identify as furry (i'm talking about the subculture, not body hair... although that can be very nice) or are interested in anthro art/stories?

I've been in the fandom for about four or five years, and in fact did my senior thesis in college on the community. I enjoy drawing and looking at other people's drawings, both sexual and otherwise... I'd say less than half of what i do is sexual. I'm always interested in art trades and comissions (very cheap), note me for links. I've yet to make it to a con, and am really hoping to be able to do so soon. I tend to change my mind about what animal best represents me once every few months, partly because I know waaaay too much about unusual animals for someone who didn't major in zoology.

Just to get it out of the way, I'm gonna completely ignore anyone outside the community who chimes in with a stupid comment about the costumes. Several studies have shown that less than a quarter of the community is interested in it; even less than people in the anime and science fiction fandoms. I'm personally fine with fursuiting, but am wholly uninterested in it.

Anyone who equates it with bestiality will be appropriately treated as a troll

OK, so Furries vs. Plushies. I've heard there are differences, but have NO idea what those are. I just know that there are costumes, have seen them on stages, and that there are whole subcultures for both.

I KNEW that if I did a search, someone here would've mentioned it before.

OK, so Furries vs. Plushies. I've heard there are differences, but have NO idea what those are. I just know that there are costumes, have seen them on stages, and that there are whole subcultures for both.

A plushie, or plushophile, is someone who has a sexual fetish (in the sense of "is aroused by") for plush toys/stuffed animals. This may also include people wearing costumes, but not necessarily so. Some plushophiles are furries, some furries are plushophiles. I haven't personally seen any evidence of a stable plushophile subculture, but I'm sure there are places where it exists.

A furry is someone who has an interest in anthropomorphic animals; just as a "trekkie" is someone who has an interest in Star Trek. For some people, you also have to self-identify as such (just like not everyone who likes Star Trek IDs as a trekkie, not everyone who likes anthropomorphic animals IDs as furry) to be considered a furry. "Furry" can also describe the anthropomorphic animal characters, or media which includes them. It is not by nature sexual, but there is a strong sexual undercurrent to the community, likely due to the anonymous nature of the online communication forms that facilitate most of furry fandom.

The costumes are a minority thing, but they're the most visible aspect of the fandom, so they get attention. Many people who wear costumes do not do so for sexual reasons, despite the stereotype, and simply enjoy dressing up the same way as a member of any other fandom might do (think of anime and scifi conventions). I have friends and aquaintances who do both, and I've noted that they also tend to be interested in unrelated costumes.

Hope this helped :)

I must say I'm quite intruigued by these ideas but have no personal interest in them. I read a Vanity Fair piece on the furries and even CSI did an episode featuring it. I can't quite wrap my brain around this fetish but it is interesting.

After TheBF saw some photos of 18-19 year old women in their furry costumes, he declared that if he became single again, he'd be interested in exploring the subculture!

From the photos I saw, most of the women wear only a pair of ears, a collar, and an anal plug with a tail in it. A lot of them get involved with "pet owners" who are just guys who hold the leash. TheBF thought the women looked very hot, like playboy bunnies on their knees and wearing dog collars, but wearing a lot less clothing.

He hasn't suggested buying me a tail or a collar yet.

Plushie would have been the perfect name for our dog! She's a plushie plushie!

This sounds more like pony play or puppy play to me.

I have to say, I don't understand the furry thing myself, but I have my own kinks, so each to their own

I think one was a fox and the other one was a lynx or something. There was one "owner" who was around TheBF's age who had three or four "pets" of different types of animals, not a single one was older than 23 years old. TheBF was like, "I'm much better looking than that guy and he's got four hot naked women on leashes! No wonder why men are into this!"

Is pony/puppy play different from furries? I thought they were a type of furry.

Shows what I know.

Oh, that sounds cute!

ROFL :biggrin1:

Pony/puppy play often occurs in a BDSM context - it's more about D/s and humiliation than about the animal portrayal iteslf. I've never seen any other animals portrayed in a BDSM context (although that doesn't mean much - I'm not exactly Miss Experienced ).

From what I've gathered (someone please correct me if I'm wrong, and excuse any inappropriate terms - I'm a bit out of my depth here) the furry interest is focused around the anthropomorphism/animal portrayal.

I think it was some sort of cross between them. Each girl's "animal" represented something about their personalities, which sounds like the anthropoorphism part, but I think the whole pet and owner part of it was BDSM because he would "train" and "control" them.

TheBF was like, "This guy is a GENIUS!" I'm telling you, if we ever break up, he's going to be buying a leash. Maybe a few leashes.

Yeah I didn't really understand the furry appeal until petite pointed out that the median age of all furries seems to be 20.. That, the humor aspect, and the sheer irony of it. I imagine there are large number of ironic hipsters that are into it just for the weirdness of it.

Flurries? Yeah, their youth... and the fact that they're hot nekkid chics on leashes who do what their owners tell them to do. That probably has something to do with the appeal for you.

Have you checked out BadDragon.com they have a forum and from what I have seen a number of the members are furries. They have some great member artwork on the forum. Most of it is centered around dragons but some have tigers, panthers and other alters. I don't know that much about it, I kind of stumbled upon it looking for toys. Just thought I would pass on the info!

Ha! TheBoyfriend asked me what animal I would be if I were a furry last night!

He likes these:

http://furry-porn.net/29/21.jpg

But he'd like them even better if they were on their knees gazing up adoringly at a guy holding a leash.

Is there a butt plug with a tail on it in my future?

:biggrin1: The first one is smokin' hot! I just like the long hair. The second one immediately made me think of a story I read where the tail part of the costume was a plug:cool:

Yep. They're hot! TheBF was impressed by that one "owner" who had a couple of "pets" who all looked like that, sans the things on their arms and legs. They were only wearing ears, tail, and leash! Everyone always thinks of the people wearing the full body costumes when they think of "furries". It turns out that some furries are naked people.

TheBF teased me last night that I was a cat because they can't be tamed and don't like wearing leashes, but then he changed his mind and said that he doesn't think I'm anything like a cat and that if a cat were a person it was be the most annoying person on earth. He asked me what I thought I was and I said a bunny.

LMAO, a bunny. Bunnies are so very cute!
