    Ok,
So, I have an Aunt who is as far right as you could possibly get. She is constantly forwarding anti-Democrat emails, most of which get deleted after reading the 1st couple of sentences. Some however, get me wondering  *btw*, I haven't elected to stop receiving her emails because the delete key is easy to hit, and once in a while, she sends some hilarious vids and jokes too.

I guess anything and everything can be "researched" for validity, but who has the time to spend hours looking (besides nuts like my Aunt) for information, that may not be available? Some of it does raise questions. How do you know if it's truth or BS?

Below is her latest *warning-very long*

    The truth about Sara
    Sarah Palin

Democrat, Independent, or Republican....the second half of this email should make all of us very sick, send this on .....especially the second half......

    READ TO THE VERY END!

    VERY ENLIGHTENING!!! AND VERY DISTURBING!!!

    By Dewie Whetsell, Alaskan Fisherman.
As posted in comments on Greta's article referencing the MOVEON ad about Sarah Palin.

The last 45 of my 66 years I've spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here's the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It's not about persona, style, rhetoric, it's about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention here.

    1. Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor's office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republican's "Corrupt Bastards Club" (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing, "la la la la" (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar.
    2. Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called "ACES." Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them, "don't let the door hit you in the stern on your way out." They stayed, and Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course, the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar.
    3. The other thing she did when she walked into the governor's office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as "pork." She went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in the "when-hell-freezes-over" stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, we'll pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governor's jet because it was extravagant.Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor's cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State provided security force (never mentioning - I imagine - that she's packing heat herself). I'm still waiting to hear the names of those other governors.

    4. Now, even with her much-ridiculed "gosh and golly" mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn't impress you, then you're trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand.

    5. For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn't start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started. Then, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again.

    6. President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewable by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona. Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But that's just a cover-up. I'm still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I won't be holding my breath.

By the way, she was content to return to AK after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn't let her. Now these adolescent screechers are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin around and tear your face off. Shoulda known better.
You have just read the truth about Sarah Palin that sends the media, along with the democrat party, into a wild uncontrolled frenzy to discredit her. I guess they are only interested in skirt chasers, dishonesty, immoral people, liars, womanizers, murderers, and bitter ex-presidents' wives.

So "You go, Girl." I only wish the men in Washington had your guts, determination, honesty, and morals.
I say:SARA PALIN FOR CHAIRPERSON FOR THE GOP - She'll whip them into shape!

I rest my case. Only FOOLS listen to the biased media.

There hasNEVER been anyone in the White House at any time who has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady's social life. One wonders why she needs so much help, at taxpayer expense, when even Hillary, only had three; Jackie Kennedy one; Laura Bush one; and prior to Mamie Eisenhower social help came from the President's own pocket.

Note: This does not include makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Miles, 49, and "First Hairstylist" Johnny Wright, 31, both of whom traveled aboard Air Force One to Europe ...

Shocking the amounts of money these people spend on staff. I mean why is there no salary cap on gov't jobs when most of us hit the ceiling years ago with our pay scales at work? And really why do these first ladies need all the staff they do nothing for the USA but throw parties and charity events. I can see the Presidents having "staff" but all the first lady should get is two assistents (1 personal and 1 for work) thats it. Rest should be fired. And that goes for all of the "spouses" of any elected USA official.

How Sarah Palin progressed beyond the PTA organizing committee I'll never know.

Michelle Obama is clearly on an ego trip!

If the figures are correct, thats a sad response compared to your usual, awesome posts.

Getting a company to dig for oil isn't classed as a good thing to me.

Laura Bush also had a large amount of attendants as well who were also paid working to middle class salaries for their time. As did Hillary Clinton and many other First Ladies before that. According to factcheck.org, the combined annual salaries for the 22 staffers working for Michelle Obama come to $1.6 million. For the 18 working for Laura Bush in 2008, the total is $1.4 million. http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/michelle-obamas-staff/

This latest turd of Conservative bullet point talkery is nothing more than a cheap shot to suggest that Michelle Obama can't do anything on her own or by herself. Or are some people just jealous she looks far more fuckable than Sarah Palin? Because clearly this can't be abut taxpayer money considering the same pigeons who are now clucking didn't say a single word when Laura Bush was being served. That is, unless "hypocrite" is your middle name?

This thread is a pathetic waste of forum space.

I said Meh because there are so many untruths in that email I can't be bothered to come up with a more cogent response.

    . . .

(Note: assorted drivel and sensationalistic large, colorized fonts removed)

Wow, Countryguy63... I've read a lot of your posts and always considered you to be a fairly level-headed guy. But to repost drivel that was resurrected from last year just in time for an election season already full of outrage and race-baiting? Either you're very naive or you're somehow part of Starinvestor's cabal of Obama-hating "nearly tea-partiers, but definitely right-wing" activists. Let's hope you're just naive.

This list of public employee salaries has been available since July 2009. In fact, it wasn't uncovered as part of some huge investigative effort -- it was published by the White House as part of the budget on 1 July 2009. In other words, "no big thing".

You can find that list reposted along with various commentary in a lot of places including -- not surprisingly -- that most popular of white power websites, st*rmfr*nt.c*m, but I'm not putting a link in here. [Personal note: aligning yourself with an opinion that can also be found on that website doesn't automatically make you evil, but it does make one wonder about your motives.] Like I said, it's been reposted multiple times, but the majority of the 1,720 occurrences I found have been republished in just the last two months on sites including American Thinker and the Washington Times. Albeit, the only way the hate-mongering poster could fit it into the WT was to hijack a comment thread to a news article titled "14 Charged Supporting Somali Terror Group". How 'hate-appropriate' to link the two.

The fact that it has been republished so frequently lately can be attributed to the same reason it showed up here. Someone decided it was "new news" and that the voting public should know about it or at least draw their own conclusions about just how uppity that Michelle Obama is in time for the mid-term elections. Just look at the titles on some of the blogs: "The Audasity [sic] of Abuse" (this, on a Thai Facebook page!), "Me Ladies Hand Servants: Michelle Obama's Staff of 22", "The Queen in her Parlor". Hardly "news" oriented. The height of absurdity comes from none other than our soon-to-blind-leading-the-blind Glenn Beck who famously compared Michelle Obama to Marie Antoinette on May 20.

The sad truth is that you bought into it too, Countryguy63, and you chose to introduce it here. So, let's examine the facts:

    1. Most of these cut-and-paste exercises (including the one you provided, Countryguy63) supposedly quote material from Dr. Paul L. Williams. However, even Dr. Williams notes that there have been liberties taken with his work:
    2. A comparison between the Obama administration and the Eisenhower administration is circumspect for obvious reasons: Eisenhower served 50 years ago when the expectation of the First Lady's role was obviously more behind the scenes than it is now. On top of that, a cheeseburger was something like a nickel.
    3. Finally, TruthorFiction.com determined that a claim that Michelle Obama's staff was "larger" than previous administrations was decidedly false -- at least when it came to comparisons to Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton's staffs.
So, back to my original thought, Countryguy63: I really hope you're just naive and I also hope you get better at using that delete key when you see emails from your Aunt.

Thank you for the factcheck site. I've bookmarked it.

But, I have to ask..isn't the 2nd half of your post on the same level at least, if not lower, than the people "on the other side" who are writing insults and untruths?

I apologize if you think "This thread is a pathetic waste of forum space", but I was trying to get truthful information. Unlike many, I don't blindly believe anything from either side.

That's too bad, because the best way to counter inacurrate information is with a factual response.

Now, does anyone have any info on the Palin stuff? I personally have my doubts that she could be as effective as it portrays, but don't know where to go to get the clear facts.

    Well,
I want to thank you for the first part of your post , but want to assure you that I didn't "buy into anything". This was the 1st time I saw this particular email and was hoping for links like you and vinyl gave me.

I also can assure you that the "delete key" is well worn when it is in regards to 95%+ of her garbage, and take none of it to heart. I explained in my 1st post why I don't completely block her emails.

Political parties mean nothing to me. Sorry that you took this as any belief of mine.

My sister and I can no longer discuss politics, because it's precisely such forwarded e-mails that constitute the bulk of her "news gathering" and because, for whatever reason, the rest comes from Fox news on TV; the last time we discussed politics she quoted Hannity verbatim. She's also turned Birther on me: this is what I get for moving so far away

Under the influence of her current partner, she's gone from a radical lesbian pagan with anarchist tendencies (my influence as her older brother) to a reclusive, xenophobic reactionary. I can state authoritatively that there's not a racist bone in her body (unless she's suddenly grown a few over the last 6-7 years). In fact, until recently she dated black women to the same degree that I favor Latinos, that is to say nearly-exclusively.

I can give you some insights into what she has said to me, especially as regards Michelle Obama, whom she simply loathes. She calls her "angry", "smug" and "arrogant" who is driven by a lust for power and "restitution" for ancestral slavery. She also believes that Michelle is even further to the left than her husband, whom she considers a socialist/Marxist closet Muslim born out of the country (where, she's not so sure: at one point, she insisted Indonesia  )

I love my sister dearly, and when we discuss personal matters and issues relating to the family she's still my sister; when we discuss politics and/or spirituality it's like a switch flips somewhere in her head. I used to try and reason with her, but now simply refuse to engage with her on those subjects.

FWIW, she thinks Palin is "real", or at least "not phony" and believe the tripe that most people "hate" her for not having aborted her last-born son with DS. My sister's profession is in administrating programs for special needs/developmentally disabled adults and works for the state of Massachusetts' Office of Mental Retardation (believe it or not, they still call it that, or did last I knew). She's not stupid, just profoundly misinformed.

It won't matter.........they'll just claim that factcheck.org is a socialist/communist organization run by "associates' of Bill Ayers in that it is a part of the Annenberg Organization.

As I said, I hoped the 'naivete card' was more accurate and indeed, it now seems appropriate. But... you're a smart guy and I'm relatively sure that you could/can Google as easily as I can. While "political parties mean nothing to [you]", I'm sure you can understand that posting a portion of the email or even a synopsis of it and asking for "the real story" would have been less offensive than putting up the entire rant and allowing it to pollute yet another corner of the web. Right?

However, it's water under the bridge. It's out there and facts have been checked and you now have the ability to send your Aunt a thoughtful and well-referenced reply of your first-hand research (take that liberty, I don't care). In fact, I hope you will. The only way to counter ignorance is to refuse it refuge; although I doubt she'll include it in her mass emails, one can hope.

As to the Palin stuff -- there is fact and there is fakelore -- folklore often based in part on fact and then extrapolated to the point of ridiculousness. There really may have been a lumberjack named Paul Bunyan before he was blown out of proportion, just as there really was an Alaskan governor named Sarah Palin who resigned her office to participate in multi-million dollar business dealings trading on her "maverick" status. To imply that she was a savior of the Alaskan people or that she was politically anti-Republican would be, IMHO, "fakelore".

Not necessarily... people who make these deceitful, reactionary e-mails and statements are intentionally looking for negative responses. They prey on the unknowing nature and trusts people give them to invoke fear, resentment and division. Not only that, but they insult the intelligence of rational thinking people who know better, yet still have to deal with the steady barricade of nonsense spewed by those who actually believe it.

After a while, being nice just doesn't cut it anymore. There's only so much smiling and politeness one can give to these hate mongers before they need to be told the facts in the same blunt, harsh and direct way they deliver their ignorance. I don't know about the majority of people in this country, but I've become tired of apologizing and thinking up excuses for other people's stupidity. The fact that everyday common sense, basic school level knowledge and overall human decency is willingly dismissed by so-called "open minded adults" so they can hold onto a hateful belief or a negative ideology really disturbs me. And it's happening more and more with every passing day in this country.

Huey Freeman, a character created by Aaron McGrudder from "The Boondocks", once said that "being the better man is overrated." In some ways that can be true. Because in the end, nobody wants their feelings hurt... but if someone throws a stone at me, you can be assured that I will throw something back.

That is noted. And if I came of a bit brash (which I tend to do) in this case then I apologize.

There is nothing unusual about the staff of the First Lady. Duties of the First Lady have varied between them, but Laura Bush, Jackie Kennedy and most of all Nancy Reagan all had mammoth personal staff's in attendance.

Nancy Reagan was legendary for her attending individuals while she was the wife of the Governor of the State of California. She did not go anywhere or do anything without an entourage surrounding her.

While the relative in question did indeed point out something that could look bad, it would ONLY look bad to those who are either extremist in nature OR to those who are uneducated to the point of knowing that servants in the White House to both the President and First Lady are something that started before the invention of the electric light.

Sadly to me this is "non-news".
