what? oh come on. He didn't lose the electoral vote in either case and won the popular vote in '04.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, there are plenty of REAL reasons to hate Bush... pulling conspiracy nonsense out of your ass and harping on non-issues just makes you look foolish. Stick to valid criticisms and your arguments will have more credibility.

Ok you want to talk about real issues......one of his biggest fuck ups was the suspension of Habeus Corpous (sp?).... thanks to the Bush administration, every citizen of the US can be arrested for whatever reason, locked in jail, denied the right to a lawyer, and sit in jail for however long the gov't (local, state, federal) decides, and never be charged with anything, and never see the light of day again.... GWB has butchered the Constitution of this great country to fit his needs.....how about that? real enough issue for ya? He's a war monger who lied to this country so he could invade a foreign country so that his buds who helped get him elected could put billions of american tax payers money in their own pockets through no-bid contracts.... please do not use my age as an indicator of my intellegence (even though I'm not the best speller lol)

Most of those polled probably couldn't name 10 presidents. So it was Bush or leave the #10 slot blank.

Washington
Lincoln
Adams I
Adams II
Jefferson
Grant
Taft
Harrison
Roosevelt I
Roosevelt II
Bush I
Bush II
Clinton
Reagan
Carter
Ford
LBJ
Kennedy
Eisenhower
Truman
Coolidge
Hoover
Wilson
Pierce
Harding
Tyler
Jackson
Fillmore
that's about it... could probably get 5 or so more if I sat and thought....

Had a debate about this the other day...

I have a difficult time saying what president is the best, because we have a 3 tier system.

When it comes to decisions to go to war or the national deficit. Congress has a hand in that as well. They make choices as well.

Do a search on the biggest bills that were every presented to congress for approval and then track the pay out on those entitlements over time and which successive administration modified them or opened them up. How the oversight or people abuse the system for those bills? How much of those payments are a portion of the deficit...right now to adjust for cost of living, etc. So when I look at those and who introduced them it's not what you think of .... you think about who was in office when it happened.

FDR was one of my heroes for a long time and when I look at how much the new deal taken a big chunk of our deficit the way people bill for services against it, it makes my stomach turn. When you realize it was the robust manufacturing of tanks, war planes giving americans job that got us out of the depression, not the new deal, I look it differently now.

I hated Regan for years, but when you look at the percentage of what the deficit was to GW Bush's deficit, Regan's was higher. When you look at the numbers, Regan spent a lot - but his democratic congress wanted a lot of entitlements. Regan got what he wanted and his congress got a lot of entitlement bills passed as well.

Then I looked at the Clinton administration. Regan actually brokered a draw down of arms race w/ Russia, Berlin wall fell and started a defense reduction in spending - as did George Bush Sr. We had a 30 day war in Kuwait and it took some time before inflation settled and it was one month after fiscal budget 1992 was passed that elections were held. Bill took office.

So I read about how the Clinton's balanced the budget and yadda yadda. I was a big time supporter of them for it. Yet the reality is they further reduced the intelligence budget and we lost linguists that actually harmed US intelligence (9/11 fallout). Also the (.) com market shot up there was more money being invested and people had more money to pay down the deficit with the reduction in spending.

What do you think the budget would look like if her universal health care bills were passed? That's another entitlement bill that would raise taxes for us and think about how it would change how doctors and insurance companies find ways to bill the universal health care instead of pay it from their company? Or vice versa? If you have alternate insurance, we're going to bill them first, etc. How about malpractice lawsuits? Our oversight for this is poor for social security to the point we're going to run out 30-40 years...and we're going to take on healthcare as government oversight as well?

It's for those reasons I have a hard time, gaging which president is better or not, there are too many things happening within congress that effect us in the long run. Or things happening in the market place that affect the market. The new FED chairman not doing more to offset the slowdown and inflation that we see today. I miss Fed chairman Al Greenspan, as a result. The job of the FED is prevent this from happening, not respond to it, like Bernacke has been and talking about how he'll respond in the future.

...favorite president...does it matter the way congress has helped or harmed him along the way?

I didn't say anything about your age.

You misspelled intelligence.

All of that is better than "he stole the election"

A lot of times people here seem to assume I'm attacking their position when really I'll I'm often doing is trying to keep them honest or get them to make stronger arguments.

In order-
Washington
Jefferson
F.D.Roosevelt
Lincoln
Eisenhower
Wilson
T.Roosevelt
Clinton
Johnson
Kennedy (not great but I need someone to be tenth)
Truman

The rest... well their were some good men with failed Presidencies, such as Hoover, Carter, John Adams and a few others. Most of the rest especially between the War of 1812 and 1900 were pretty much hacks.

Bush in top ten? I can't explain that.

Unfortunatly there are Americans who think that it's OK for a president to invade an innocent country and kill thousands of their people, but if he gets his dick sucked by an eager intern then he's a monster.

I was amazed to learn that the United States also invaded Mexico in 1840ish? 1870ish? for no real reason. After occupying the country for a little over a year, they agreed to leave but took much of what is now Texas, Arizona, California and I think some of Utah. All places that used to belong to Mexico. Now I don't know the details of this "war" but it does point to a long history of this sort of aggresion. Too bad as the USA has so much good to offer the world too.

That, and the executive branch has not always been so extremely prominent and important as it is today. During many of these oft-forgotten presidents' administrations, the balance of power had shifted far more in favor of the legislative branch. Congress held all the power and the president was rather inconsequential.

The three branches are supposed to be equal, and they are supposed to fight amongst themselves. IMO the current administration has done far too much to increase the power of the executive branch, and this imbalance of power needs to be corrected.

Hillary is an evil manipulative self important bitch. Obama's middle name is Hussein and church beliefs are all about Africa, not african american's africa. That's ain't riiiiight.

Am I the only one who finds this post a bit frightening. What does one's religion have to do with their politics. Wasn't church and state separated years ago. In Canada, religion plays virtually no part in our elections. Our current Prime Minister is a bit too religious for many people's liking. The idea that one needs to be Christian and be seen to be a practising Christian to be elected as president is in my opinon just not right.

Not really the same thing.

If you want to bring up past American atrocities and senseless/imperialistic acts of aggression/domination... just read up on what we did to Native Americans.

(not that it was really any worse than what the Spanish, Portuguese, French, or British in other parts of the world did with their indigenous populations)

Maybe they combined the total votes for both George W. and George H.W. to arrive at the total needed to make it to the top ten.
