That's the same cover I metioned in my first post. The shorts must've appeared lime green when that picture was reprinted in the Parade magazine where I saw it in.:biggrin1:

I've got a hunch his early retirement has alot to with the Steroid investigations that don't look to be stopping any time soon. Probably the same reason he up and decided to go play in Japan a season or 2 ago. When he came back and it looked like the investigations weren't dying down as some might have hoped he decided to become a "skipper" on an obscure minor league team in one of the Carolinas, at the age of 31 or 32.

He's always seemed like a good guy and an underrated/underused asset on the Sox but I'm surprised I haven't seen anybody else make this connection.

Gabe was married for fourteen years and fathered two boys but was a major womanizer from way back
