So I came across this term the other day and I was wondering if I could be enlightened on the dynamics of this term. Is it an overall negative term and something offensive? I'm sorry if it is, I'm just a very curious person. I seen it used negatively from the definition example given. Like do gay guys use straight friends as gay bait? Just an origin breakdown please.

ok, so "gay baiting" is leading someone of the same sex into thinking that you're appealing to their interests (which you likely are) while not being interested in them for anything more than attention/money.

another good term is cock tease, but... that at least implys being interested in the sexual aspect at all.

That was what I grabbed from it, but I couldn't determine if it was positive or negative. It could have positive benefits, right?

From my understanding, gay baiting is when someone tries to use homosexuality with an ulterior motive.

Eg a straight guy who flirts with gay men to get drinks at the bar. JK Rowling telling everyone Dumbledore was a gay character. James Franco playing role after role of gay characters which involve gay sex scenes or nudity.

The darker more insidious side of gay baiting is the promotion of homophobia to straight people. Eg most of
Disney cartoon villains. Dr Smith from Lost in Space etc
