What a great story from the Netherlands. Guys adopt and then begin to foster children who are unwanted in many cases by anyone else. I can't imagine how anyone could think that two guys couldn't be great parents to children after reading this story.

Quote:
Aad and Ron Dissel de Boo tell the story of how they once went to a conference in the USA to talk of their experiences in raising children. Before the spoke, a woman came up to them and told them forthrightly that she didn't agree that homosexuals should be allowed to raise children, because it went against traditional family values.

What great men! Very proud of them. All the stories of the abused children that they care for was so disturbing though. I'll never understand how parents could abuse infants or children. If only the rest of the world would recognize the positive contributions of gays & lesbians.

This just conquers the myth that two men can't raise a child.

Most of the parents on Rosie's R Family Cruise adopt from the higher percentile of children that fell through the cracks of the system. Now they are being well cared for, educated and taught unconditional love. Not that more conservative homes don't do this, and not that there are straight families that don't adopt and raise kids as well.

I just think it is a shame that people allow biased views to interfere with all the good possibilities gay parents can offer otherwise unwanted children.

Great article.

just goes to show that theres more to being a parent than heterosex. there are some straight "parents" that hardly deserve the title. i can't believe that people actually fight against ANYBODY who wants to take in unwanted children. i bet the ones fighting gay adoption would never consider taking in an unwanted kid. brings into question what kind of parent they are if they would deny a child a loving home on their own skewed ideologies.

FAMILY VALUES have no sexual orientation, and THIS proves it.
how many orphans wouldn't be HAPPY with a gay family? ALL of them, having a family is the important part! :D

Technically, if someone fosters a child (unless it's long term) then they're not "raising" the child.

They're "giving them a place to stay".

Not that the latter is bad or any less noble. But let's not kid ourselves into believing that any couple (gay or straight) could raise 100 children through fostering because they're not there for 16 years. If they were literally raising 100 children, they'd need a hell of a big house and can you imagine the line for the bathroom?

they most certainly DID raise these children. maybe not long-term, but the children received much more than food and care. one man actually overcame a fear of horses to teach them horseback riding because they know being around animals is positive for RAISING children. again, it may not have been very long in some cases, but these children were certainly being raised.
