dude, the more you post the more you actually frighten me.... seriously...

the sum of us, great movie russel crowe's response to his film romper stomper

my beautiful laundrette- can't believe any one brought that up, great film.

mysteryous skin- great film, very very harsh

brokeback mountain - yes you could call it a movie about bisexual cowboys, or maybe you could call it a movie that follows a very lonely closed off man through his miserable day to day who finds love with only one person in the world..... but you're right man your way is much simpler and easier to put on a label

short bus, not a movie JUST about being gay but about open sexuality

Yeah... i think i am going to look into shortbus

ya i'd say short bus is like 20% gay, and the rest wasn't that interesting. it got alot of press for the nudity & sex (mostly group-hetero) but as a movie i thought it was self indulgent

it's probably worth the rental just to watch the solo at the beginning, but don't expect porn or any substantial gay story development. no real breakaway gay characters either, pretty standard fags that hollywood writes. looked like they pulled the actors from a queer as folk casting call.

It's In the Water - hilariously funny!

Bound - It's a lesbian flick, but still amazing.

Jason recommends "Broken Hearts Club" (I don't know why i'm posting that for him when he is perfectly capable of typing and posting it himself... but oh well)

red dirt

i recommended it in a different thread but it deserves another mention here.

some very understated subtle perfomances make it memorable.

I have mixed feelings about it. I saw it several years ago and I didn't enjoy it much at the time. I thought it was painfully slow-paced, but it did a good job capturing the monotony and boredom of the hazy, lazy days of summer in a small, rural, Southern town. It was a pervaded by a sense of the futility of life, and I could understand why the main character's aunt (portrayed by Karen Black) was depressed.

And yet, it has stuck with me. I think perhaps the reason I didn't like it initially was because it wasn't what I expected and it wasn't what I wanted to see. I was expecting something sexier, and hoping for something happier. In hindsight, I think it was very well done for what it was.

I would like someone to explain O Fantasma. I just finished watching it and I just don't get the ending. I followed it up to the part where he abducted the swimmer dude but after that it just got so obscure. Ending with him living at the land fill I guess. This could have ended much better then that, seems the writer just gave up.

I just found a bunch more movies searching on my P2P program not sure if there listed yet
Eternal Summer
Eleven Men Out
Anonymous
Men in the Nude
Rock Haven
Those Who Love Me Can Take the Train
No Night is too Long
November Moon
Paris Is Burning
Boy Meets Boy

Not sure if any are foreign

Watched Maurice and The Sum of Us last night as well as boy culture and house boy, God these movie are so touching. Russell Crowe was a very good looking young man, to bad him and his friend never hooked up in the movie. God could Dad have been in the way anymore. Was a bit wierd how they spoke to the camera but it worked really well.

well it was made pre-brokeback, when any movie that had a gay theme was relegated to limited release in urban art house theaters. it might get different promotional treatment by the studio if it was released now. still gonna be hard to compete with big box office crap like wolverine (if hugh jackman wasn't running through the whole thing naked nobody would care about that film)

it would be good if they made a red dirt II

see where they are 5 yrs down the road.

have them find each other again, maybe back on the farm, or move to iowa and get married. a fairy tale ending to the original would have killed the angst.

I thought the ending was hopeful, i know some people have said they thought the whole thing was depressing but it seemed real and genuine to me without overwriting the drama or sex, and enuff was resolved to leave you with a note of optimism. and doesn't everybody have a crazy aunt?

What was the other gay film that starred a young Rupert Everett, a baby-faced Colin Firth, and pre-Princess Bride Cary Elwes? It takes place in the 30s. Anybody know the title of it?

You're thinking of Another Country, which Hells mentioned back on page 1. I saw it, but don't remember it very well. It didn't make much of an impression on me, I guess. But I did like impression it gave that all the English schoolboys were buggering each other--it made me wish I went to an English boarding school. (I thought Maurice was much better, however.)

I liked Robert Addie's supporting role in the film. I was sad to learn that he died. I always thought he was kinda cute.

I've heard that the movie Happy Endings is a good movie, a friend let me borrow it on DVD but I have not watched it yet.

it's ok, and in addition to bobby canavale and jason ritter, there's some pretty cool LA locations to look at.

kinda depends if you can stomach much of tom arnold though...he's not my fav, and i can take or leave lisa kudrow, not a big fan of friends here.

it's sort of like several movies tied toghether with plot devices and character overlap, and i wouldn't call really call it a "gay" movie

I didn't hate it, didn't love it

The Station Agent has more of Bobby Canavale, and it's a better movie
