That video seems to finish by concluding that, like many things, it may not be one simple explanation.
Money can certainly be a powerful motivator. People do jobs they don't like for money. Some turn to crime and some even murder those close to them to claim the life insurance. We all have limits about what we will and won't do for money but not everyone's limits are in the same place. I am sure some could "grin and bear it" as long as there is viagra/porn available.
Then there's the issue that has cropped up in other questions: What do we mean by straight? Or perhaps what do those performers who claim to be straight mean by it. Do we mean only 0 on the Kinsey scale with gay meaning only 6 and all of 1-5 counting as bisexual? Or are 0 & 1 straight, 2-4 bi and 5 & 6 gay? My suspicion is that 1 on the scale is rather more common than we have previously thought. Such a man will probably pursue relationships with women, maybe marry one, and will appear to society at large as straight and would probably not feel a fraud for identifying as such. Yet he may act on that limited attraction to other men and acting in porn may be one way in which he does this.
In other cases the porn studio may simply be lying. The performer may be just a straight-acting gay guy. Much of what you see in film and on TV is an illusion and porn is no exception. There was a big fuss here in the UK a few years back because TV talent/game shows had people phone in to vote and then it was revealed that only a proportion of those votes were counted and thus influenced how that episode finished. The producers, used to working with a medium of illusion, didn't see why this was any different. As long as people got the impression that their votes counted that was all that mattered, wasn't it? So with porn, as long as the watcher thinks the actor is straight, that's all that matters, isn't it? Or is it?
