Just curious about what are your thoughts on straight men who have sex with men in porn for $$$. Do you think a straight man, who's not attracted to men at all, can have sex with another man just because he's getting paid?

Just watched this short documentary and it is very interesting to listen to the straight performer's perspective.

"Straight" actually means closet gay.
Here on LPSG it is the closest label for heterosexuals to use, so straight (closet gay) men can pretend to be heteros by being hidden in the same group. So "straight" men getting paid to do something they love is probably fake.

Heterosexual men are only attracted to the opposite sex. You'd have difficulty getting us to have gay sex for money.

"Gay for pay" is just a term closeted gay/bi men along with the porn industry uses to make money because the theory is a "straight" man than can be "turned" for money is a lot more desirable than 2 gay men, the fantasy of having the unattainable/

Out of respect for the gay and bi men of the world, I think it's disrespectful and it's selfish. I say this only given how hard it was for my roommate just to come out and be comfortable with that. Who has to put himself out there and talk to guys who may end up being straight. To be worried about me wearing crop tops with a concerned of me being viewed as gay.

Anyway, but I don't thin, the "Gay 4 Pay" guy would understand that perspective. The objective is making money, and when it comes to making money, people do what they need to do at whatever cost. Especially here in America, but don't get me started on that, lol.

Possible, yes but inspired???? That would depend on how open minded he is and even more how good and actor he is.

With context to porn where the term came from it the old days 90s and 80s where being homosexual was less accepted the male performers that did this would most likely use this to uphold the idea that they were still straight. While in actuality being bi.

I've seen many interviews with female pornstarts that know the male talent outside of what we see and many of them said that as high 90% of guys in porn are bisexual. Phoenix Marie said that it was lower but still high think she said about 80%. I'd say the way things are today people are more accepting than they were back then

Today it's called crossover performers rather than gay for pay because like others have said that's just another way of saying bi since an actual straight man would not have sex with a man just because money was available. If you listen to Asa Akira podcast she's interviewed a bunch of people and have talked about it. The wolf Hudson one they really talk about it alot.
It's the pornhub podcast

Ok, I got you. But in my case, I'm asking the people here about the perception in the porn industry, if they think that someone who calls himself a straight man but has sex with men for money in porn is really straight, or is that the porn industry is telling us that they are straight and maybe they are not? Just curious how real it is, and if it is real, do people can do almost everything for money even getting out of their sexuality/standards/comfort zone? The same could apply to straight women who have sex with other women in porn.

I have a difficult time believing that a straight man would have gay sex....even if they were paid to do it. Also, I've been asked on more than one occasion if I wanted to do some "scenes" with people....and they would pay me for it. I'm just not into that.

I think it's not possible. For a guy to experience gay sex, they have to be actually bi or gay. Like one time I blew my so called straight friend. He must've been be bi. No way he was completely straight. It was for free too.

The close-mindedness and myopia of this thread is astounding. It is very naive to deny the power that money has over people, life, and any given life situation. I for sure do not believe so narrowly that any GfP actor is just bi or gay in disguise.

I know of a few straight porn actors who started off doing gay/bi scenes because the money was better, but have since transitioned to straight scenes despite the pay probably being lesser. Because straight is who they are and they finally have a solid steady stream of work coming in. And these performers have never looked back or done a GfP scene since.

As me and my friends used to say back in the day, money makes the coochie go ah-ah - meaning sexuality has no real sway if enough money is offered to someone. Whether GfP is bad for the LGBT community is a different topic altogether. But to say that any GfP actor is bona fide gay or bi is wishful thinking or ignorant at best, and sexuality-denying at worst.

De facto, "Straight" merely communicates a desire to be perceived as conforming to whatever are the conventional standards of heteronormativity of the given era and culture. Some like to believe the term refers to actual heterosexuals (tbh the term and its application would be cleaner and more useful if this were so), but both the etymology of the term and its lived usage lend more to the lifestyle interpretation than the orientation interpretation. So no, there's no real barrier to a Straight man being involved in certain homosexual activities, at least peripherally to the core lifestyle he identifies with.

Thanks for your comment. That was exactly my initial thought, some people can do anything for money. However, as so many people in these forums started to say that it's impossible for a straight man to have sex with another man for money, I started to question it myself. Is gay for pay a big lie?

It is interesting that, usually, people do not question a woman's heterosexuality when they do lesbian scenes in porn: "that's just her job", "she does it for the money", they say. But if a man does it, he must be bi or gay, there's no other way.

Short answer no.

Porn - it's fun to watch and it's usually full of shit with very little basis in any reality most of us know, beyond the actual sex acts involved (less the obvious of stopping mid stroke to pull out and masturbate on someones face)

And yes there is a double standard.

That video seems to finish by concluding that, like many things, it may not be one simple explanation.

Money can certainly be a powerful motivator. People do jobs they don't like for money. Some turn to crime and some even murder those close to them to claim the life insurance. We all have limits about what we will and won't do for money but not everyone's limits are in the same place. I am sure some could "grin and bear it" as long as there is viagra/porn available.

Then there's the issue that has cropped up in other questions: What do we mean by straight? Or perhaps what do those performers who claim to be straight mean by it. Do we mean only 0 on the Kinsey scale with gay meaning only 6 and all of 1-5 counting as bisexual? Or are 0 & 1 straight, 2-4 bi and 5 & 6 gay? My suspicion is that 1 on the scale is rather more common than we have previously thought. Such a man will probably pursue relationships with women, maybe marry one, and will appear to society at large as straight and would probably not feel a fraud for identifying as such. Yet he may act on that limited attraction to other men and acting in porn may be one way in which he does this.

In other cases the porn studio may simply be lying. The performer may be just a straight-acting gay guy. Much of what you see in film and on TV is an illusion and porn is no exception. There was a big fuss here in the UK a few years back because TV talent/game shows had people phone in to vote and then it was revealed that only a proportion of those votes were counted and thus influenced how that episode finished. The producers, used to working with a medium of illusion, didn't see why this was any different. As long as people got the impression that their votes counted that was all that mattered, wasn't it? So with porn, as long as the watcher thinks the actor is straight, that's all that matters, isn't it? Or is it?

I've never liked beefcake porn gay or straight.

Let's be honest: few men look like that. Even guys who gym rarely get that beefy without steroids.

Gay-for-pay is nothing new but it should be no surprise by now that most of the beefcake actors are straight or predominantly so.
