Hey Y'all.... question for the group:

If a gay guy who has lots of gay "friends"... does that mean he is usually hooking up with a lot of them... OR... can a gay man actually have a-lot of gay friends who are actually just "friends" lol

I'm an openly gay man and I have gay friends who are just friends. I'm either not attracted to them or it's a case that I value their friendship and I don't want to risk losing it.

I have been confonted many times with the situation where a heterosexual male assumes I will sleep with him or my gay friends and I have to say, I find it insulting. I mostly try and make a joke out of it in a way to deflect what the man is assuming of me, however, it's horrible that some men think that because your gay, you'll sleep with any penis.

Can a straight man have female friends that he doesn't sleep with?

Gay men are not all promiscuous or just sleeping around with anyone and everyone who is also gay.

Hypersexualizing gay men is harmful, just as hyper sexualizing men in general is harmful.

Absolutely! This is a big, big problem in our modern society. It perpetuates the myth that all men are just sexual pigs in the end. They will sleep with anyone, and they're no different than male animals on the sexual front.

Delusional.

I've only ever slept with one of my friends and that was an old high school friend. No one since then.

I have a lot of gay friends and most actually have a pretty good policy of not hooking up with pretty close friends. I think it is a fairly common misconception gay friends are just sleeping with each other all the time.

Answer: Yes they have been screwing around with each other.

It would be my bet (based on experience) that members of a group (of gay friends) will have shared sexual opportunities with every one in the group if they have been in the group for very long. If they haven’t done something physical with every other member of the group, they have thought seriously about it.

Same kind of activities will be working in heterosexual friends groups.

So why are you asking?

(Sorry for the double post)

Totally not a joke. Seen it too many times. Works for gays and straights and everyone in between.

Consider that there are often post on LPSG where gay guys are asking for guidance on how to meet other guys. The most frequent response is for the guy to get out there and mingle, meet people, and give the people he meets a chance to either develop interest in him or introduce him to someone who might be interested.

Point being, “friends” and their friends are the most likely place to find people of interest. And that is where a lot of activity takes place.

Granted that how you define “friends” may either limit or expand your pool of people.

not sure how it works in South Texas but in my experience there has not been an intermingling of friends, straight or gay. I cannot say whether or not anyone has thought about it but then one cannot get beaten for thoughts! I have had many gay friends and can say that i only had sex with one and that was before we became friends. As for straight friend/women in my circle there are only two and one was and will always be the 3rd in a sexual situation, she loves the attention!

Great input. Maybe next time don’t reply and ignore the thread.

My point is that there is much more information to be found on this topic within LPSG, if people would like to look.

And thanks for the compliment, it was great input.

It's funny when you speak to some well meaning straight people. You tell them you're gay and they tell you about the one and only other gay person they know... "Ooohh my hairdresser is gay, you should meet him". Almost like putting a boy and girl hamster in a cage and expecting them to breed I guess. It's kind of sweet but sadly misguided at the same time.

Whether you are gay or straight or in between, the story is the same. You can have friends that you have no sexual chemistry with and you can have friends who have the potential to become more given the opportunity.

Statistically, if someone has "a lot of gay friends", chances are some of those friends are sexually compatible and there's nothing wrong with that.

There seems to be an insinuation that it's somehow bad to find sexual partners out of a group of friends, but isn't friendship really the place we should start a sexual relationship rather than the other way around?
