Just wanting to know what other gay men think, are we generally more wealthier than our straight counterparts? I believe I have seen studies on this, but based on your own experiences with other gay men, do they seem to be more well off with their straight contemporaries in your area? I would definitely love to know what rural gay men have to say.

Gay men, especially couples, are Dual Income; No Kids. People of that type typically have much more disposable income than the straight counterparts who have children which are very expensive realistically.

But that's all the info I have on the topic. I;m sure there's other studies and experiences that explain more or even possibly to the contrary.

I've know gay couples that seemed to have lots of cash and I've known gay couples that were always broke.

Sure, most of us don't have kids, so we don't spend our money on that. But I think some of us live a more expensive lifestyle too. More trips, more eating out in nicer restaurants and bars, nicer cars, nicer houses, etc.

Gay men often have had more money at the end of their paychecks because the did not have kids, a non-working spouse and all that comes with kids. So, they had money to spend on luxuries or saved and invested along the way. Now that gays are forming families with kids and stay at home spouses, with private school tuition, insurance premiums and all that the equation has changed.

i belong to a gay men's chorus in the UK and we've over 150 members, knowing a good number of them and my own experience of partners, most gay guys earned average or below average salaries and didn't seem that interested in 'careers' but more into the partying and fun life.
So can't speak for all and i'm sure, like me, there are many career focussed gay guys around, but they seem hard to find.
So my experience is that no they are neither more wealthy and spend most of their income on fun.

Here’s a definitive answer.

Gay Men Used to Earn Less than Straight Men; Now They Earn More

It used to be that gay men earned less, because of (predictably) discrimination. Now, it seems, gay men earn more, by about 10%.

The authors here seem to hint that same-sex marriage may play a role. If gay men can form stable partnerships with tax advantages, the lower earning partner may choose to opt out of the workforce more readily, boosting the apparent average for gay men still in employment.

Personally, I think it’s unlikely that sexuality per se makes you smarter, harder working, more likely to be promoted, or more likely to choose a higher paying profession.
