Ive only been in gay world for two years but it seems that my experience has been that the most guys have been consistently in the 6.5 to 7.5 range. On adam4adam it seems like at least half the guys are 7.5 or bigger. And those that i have met from that site i would say have been conservative in their measurements. I guess im thinking that the one study that said that gays average one inch bigger may be true. Gay guys....whats your experience say?

I just think these sizes on the net are off. I think gay and straight have the same kinds of averages. Big guys may be more apt to show them. (?)

The "gay men are bigger" thing is one of the few dick-folklores that's actually backed up by evidence. I don't think it's anywhere near 7" as an average (you'll find many with 7" but for an average that's enormous) but it's enough of a difference that it's statistically significant.

btw don't try and compute averages based on what people say online.

there are studies showing that SELF-REPORTED measurements are slightly higher among gay men than straight men. this doesnt exclude the possibility that gay men have a greater tendency to exaggerate their measurements.

Didn't know sexual orientation adds up inches.... Gee. Well a straight guy, in a film i was watching couple of nights ago was very big, at least bigger than me. My straight cousin is much smaller than me and a guy I saw some years ago at the showers of my fitness club was xtra horse hung. I never got to know his orientation. Puzzled?

I'm guessing it's probably true. Kind of*

But not by a whole inch in terms of erect size I would think ... ?

I've had many opportunities to see penises in both soft and hard states, and I think they are on average slightly larger among the population who define themselves as out gay men.

*But, there's a few things to remember.

1. Some of the "bravado" that you need to actually go ahead and define yourself as gay, when there's really 20 or 30% of people, or whatever it is, who are functionally "bi" ... that might be connected with dick size.

2. In some ways, maybe even interest/fascination in penises may be connected with homosexuality. Not the sole "cause", obviously. And I'm not saying any or all of the straight men who use this site "must be" gay. Not at all, I definitely think that would be nonsense. But, however people's sexualities are laid down, some kind of interest in the penis will surely have some kind of relation with homosexuality - arguably, it's what homosexuality is. And if your own is a bit bigger, you are more likely to continue to take an interest ... maybe ?

I love the smell of anecdotal evidence in the morning. What's puzzling to me is how many people really don't understand how averages work.

Not saying that the OPs claim is true. But if he's just saying that the average gay guy (whatever the criteria for that is...) is (statistically significantly) larger than the average straight guy, then citing instances from your personal experience doesn't disprove the average.

It's like if someone says the average American male is taller than the average Japanese male and you post about 4 Japanese guys you know that are over 6' tall. That's not really refuting the statement.
Not saying the OPs claim is accurate but your post really doesn't say much here.

Good catch - I'd heard this 'study' being passed around over and over, but yeah it's just based on the self-reported Kinsey stuff. Kinsey is basically: everyone thinks the average is 6", so people generally report that. They also measured on pieces of card, which if you try yourself, I guarantee you'll push it up so it bends up to your belly adding ~0.5-1".

It was really a different time, so I could see gay men being a little interested in dick size, and straight men not caring much. In our mass-media culture of constantly trying to make everyone feel inadequate so they buy shit, the self-reported average is reaching 8"...

Yeah, this here. Kinsey's methodology wasn't too bad given the attitudes of his time and the subject matter, but sample groups he studied and drew conclusions from were horribly biased. So many of his "findings" are shown to be pretty inaccurate but they're so ingrained in pop psychology/biology that many people still assume it's true.
It's similar to how often you hear people say (with confidence) that "we only use 10% of our brains". The Kinsey equivalent being "10% of people are homosexual".

I think people who claim they only use 10% of their brain are probably right.

Ahahahaha, zzzzing!

I'm always reluctant to buy the X people have bigger dicks than Y people thing because there's so little good science on the matter. Self-report is a major concern (there is decent science to show that, surprise surprise, men over-exaggerate penis size when asked to self-report), as are sampling bias, the method of measurement, and all sorts of extraneous variables (such as controlling for height, health, and whether the participants smoke or drink to excess - all of which can affect penis size).

And I would never, ever, ever trust a dating or hook-up website. I'm sure some guys tell the truth, but the whole social desirability issue would throw the results way out of whack.

Most of the guys I've slept with were when I was in my teens and early twenties and from what I can remember they all were pretty well hung, but that might just be very happy memories playing tricks on me!
As I'm single now I'll have to research on how big cocks are now, and how far the can fit in my mouth ;)
