None of what you say here is really exclusive to straight men, especially not fighting or macho posturing. You could substitute "cock/dick" for "pussy" and make very much the same argument.

I was thinking the same thing...obnoxious behavior is obnoxious behavior...it has nothing to do with sexual preference.
And thanks gentlemen, this has been an interesting thread...thanks.

Thanks for saying this. I once had a gay friend berate me for the "sexism" of the straight porn I like. "You just see women as objects." Yeah, and the gay porn he likes doesn't objectify the starving 18-year-old boys who land in LA with dreams of motion picture stardom.

I never understood how it felt to be objectified until I realized I was gay and walked into my first gay bar and eventually took my shirt off. Nothing like a few hard stares and grunts to make you feel like a piece of meat. After that, I finally understood what women had complained about during my life as a straight man.

I had a few gay friends who tried to convince me that I was bisexual. They kept telling me that I needed to "open my mind" in terms of sexuality. They kept telling me I was oppressed. At first, I was so naive that I thought they were really concerned that I may be oppressed. You know, they really had my best interest in mind, and I tried to thank them for their concern but assured them I was fine and didn't feel oppressed at all. Finally, another gay friend explained to me, "They just want to fuck you." So, I know what women go through as well, I suppose. Suffice it to say that objectification goes on in all orientations.

My partner and I used to have a gay bar back in the 80's and even gay men would walk off the street and once they hit the front door their personna would change. From the str8 uptight world to the relaxing atmosphere of being with friends. My ex-wife loved it,she could actually have a drink with good conversation with a man without him staring at her tits and trying to figure out how to get her in bed. Adventurous str8 men would tag along with gay friends and after awhile would realize that they didn't have to act like an obnoxious macho bore and they would wind up having the time of their life.
Str8 men in groups have mob mentality but get them alone and they relax. I was between jobs recently and took a job that was 90% women with most management being men(1 real hottie ,but thats another story). These men would act so relaxed in large groups of women but when I or another man would come into the room they would put their sheild of butch back up.American men are so afraid of being thought of as weak or gay. They are so afraid of being judged, thats why there are no speedos at the str8 beach, but get them on vacation in greece or a south american beach and watch out.
In america it seems that only bottom acting flammers come out on things like national T.V. so most str8 people see all gay men that way. It might be up to us to educate them but, it is hard for a masculine gay man to come out because they don't want to be percieved as screamers either.Growing up a good friend of mine (who i had sex with reguarly)would refuse to think of himself as gay.He would say I can't be gay I love sports, I hate fashion, can't stand streisand and so on. Btw ,he was a star pitcher on the baseball team but his heart was really into catching! My best friend now is str8 and plays football(college and semi pro). He hates it when I say football is the most homoerotic sport ever, because he knows its true and just dosn't want to talk about it! Almost everybody is alittle bit gay even though they won't ever act on it! Relax guys!
This new Will & Grace generation will be quite different from ours, probably for the better!

Thanks for the great response. Elaborate on how football is homoerotic. I agree, but I think wrestling is far more homoerotic!

This reminds me of the time I was talking to a young man about 18 years old. He was working in a sports memorabilia store. He was acting natural and, actually, he was a little bit effeminate. Not a flamer at all. Just an occasional wave of the hand that seemed a little effeminate. Not to the point where you would think he was gay, though.

Anyway, we had been talking for about 15 minutes, alone in the store. And then in walked two men his age. I was surprised that suddenly he stiffened up his posture and his voice dropped an octave when he said, "Hi, how are you guys?" It was actually kind of funny.

I used to think there were some men who were naturally "masculine." Now, I think it's just socialization, and I think that some men turn it on more when around other men -- like you said.

I find this hard to believe cause you are undeniably hot. I think that when you were straight women looked you up and down, checked out your package; and viewed you as a piece of meat but were more covert in their lustful glances so you didn't notice it.

See, now I am blushing (and I turn Terra Cota, not red, per sea).

It's funny--now I can tell when a woman is cruising me whereas before I never could.

I should qualify and say that:

a. Women are far more skilled about covertly cruising men than are men

b. Men don't know how to be covert

c. Gay men often do not even try to be convert

Actually gay men can be very subtle but only if it's for something seriously possible. If I think I don't stand a chance I could be very very direct (if I'm in a safe environment of course) which would not mean that I am trying to 'convert' but just that I am having fun

yeah, I'm really missing all that negative energy, the smells, the incessant talking, all that loud emoting, the incessant talking, all that marvelous unsolicited advice, the incessant talking, all the demands for attention 24 hours a day, the smells, the incessant talking, those times of the month, the incessant talking, the smells ...

Nick4444, Didn't mean to open up a can of worms, but merely stating how I as a closeted bisexual perceive things. Can't speak for all the bi-guys, but sometimes I feel as if we're really the disenfranchised and misunderstood members of a sexual world. I'll admit that not being fully open about our sexual nature, except for perhaps forums like this, that we send out confusing signals and that others don't know how to begin to approach us. If we're closeted and prefer to stay that way, women hate us, straights are perplexed and guys that are totally gay act as if we're aliens or down right weird. What you described as...."negative energy...the smells..." in my view is a BITCH, irrespective of gender and I'll definitely avoid even thinking about commitment to such a woman/man. As an animal on this planet, at least for the time being, I can't even envision a monogamous relationship with just one other individual.

Not true. I know very few gay guys that would go to the lengths that straight men go through to get some pussy.

And the gay clubs that I have gone to, the obnoxious behavior is nowhere near as ridiculous as straight bars.

The gay bar I go to, I saw one fight. The straight bars I go to, I have seen at least one fight at every one that I have gone to.

And the macho posturing is not exclusive to straight men? Are you kidding me? I have seen ridiculous fights because a guy stepped on another guy's shows. I have seen fights where a guy glanced at another guy's girl.

Not true because you said so? Because you have been in a few bars?

What a laugh.

That you have never seen fights in gay bars or macho posturing among and between gay men that only means that you have not seen it, not that it does not exist.

My point -- since you missed it-- is that the traits of uber-machismo, being sexy-hungry, etc. are MALE traits, regardless of orientation.

I have been around a long time and have many str8 and gay friends. To me, men who never have sex of any kind with another guy, but aren't the least bit concerned as to whether anyone else is gay or not are the REAL str8 ones. The so-called str8 guys who gay-bash, who are afraid to take their clothes off at the gym, etc. are phonies. I have read that many gay-haters think about sex with another guy, then hate themselves, and by extension, anyone out there who they think may be gay. They are the dangerous ones. Fortunately, I have a lot of friends who couldn't care less which way I, or anyone else, may swing.

Thanks for the great response. Elaborate on how football is homoerotic. I agree, but I think wrestling is far more homoerotic!

Ultimate Fighting Championship (Known as UFC.) is really homoerotic to me. Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar fighting. Forrest Griffin and Keith Jardine fighting. Matt Hughes and Georges St. Pierre fighting. If you really look at it, it all looks like mad gay sex. These guys may have girlfriends or wives but damn, those hubbies look hot as hell grappling with each other. It looks like sanctioned public ass fuckings to me. And Jason Statham screaming "Bollocks!" from the sidelines. An added plus. Hehehe.

(I am sorry if this offends any UFC fan and/or fighter. Take it as a compliment. Mixed matial arts is a hot sport to watch.)

Man, I have the nottiest mantasies whenever I watch UFC. Especially when Matt Hughes and Forrest Griffin are on the fight card.

Henry Miller should know this. One day Marilyn Monroe was walking down the street with famous acting coach Lee Strasberg and Lee turned to her and said something about her unkept appearance and general depression .Marilyn said "Oh ,you want to see her?",she then retied her raincoat, flipped up the collar, tosseled her hair and threw those famous hips into action! Well, cars started slowing down, cabbies started honking and she was getting cat calls. Then she turned it off, like a switch.Monroe knew how to work it! Hyper femininity is now dead exept for drag queens and it is also why so many chicks come off dykey. well hyper masculinity is dead also exept for football and a few other sports.Thats why guys like it. It's super butch, its men at their manlyest. Hell you can almost see thru their uniforms.Their big huge MEN!And their FIGHTING! Str8 men want to be like them, big huge crushing machines, but their satisfied just watching them on tv! It satisfies their men on men thing. Why do you think the gayest arm of the services is the Marines or Navy seals. It's MEN at their best and thats where hyper masculine gay men want to be,with other hyper-masculine men.
(all probably trying to prove something). Most people would probably prefer that you turn off the hyper femininity(it's fake and a turn off) and the same would go for the super butch.

Personally I don't see that much difference between straight guys and gay guys other than their sexual orientation. One of the things I have gotten from this website is that we are more alike than different. We want the same things out of life, we really don't care wheither our friends are straight or gay. When a straight guy notices me at the gym, I don't automatically assume they want to have sex with me. And I assume that when I notice a straight guy at the gym, he doesn't think I want to have sex with him. So straight guys like girls. that's ok, someone has to. It is just not me.

i live in west hollywood, ca, and there are some scary people of all gender preferences here. when i'm in the gym at 7pm it's like a zoo. lots of eyebeam and "butching" it out and some REALLY terrible workout wear, but if you asked one of them (perpetrators) why they wouldn't just come up and say "hi", i'm pretty sure the answer would be because most of them are too shit-scared to. i would much prefer that the gay scene was a little less frantic here. i hear portland is a lot like you state above.

West hollywood was weird in the 80's and early 90's it must be bizzare by now. Almost uncomprehendable to most!
