would you dress like a drag queen daily walking to your Supermarket ? Office ?
or wearing Leather BDSM chain to your Pharmacy ?

Amusing question. One of my best friends in Salt Lake City, Ewetaw, worked for Beneficial LIfe, the mormon life and health insurance company, going to work dressed as a woman for more than 27 years. One of his/her coworkers -- a "nice" return missionary type of boy -- said to me once, "Anna Louise is a bit strange, don't you think? Nice . . . but strange." Hah! Strange didn't even begin to describe her. But she was (and I hope still is) very nice. :biggrin1:

Edit: Even more hilarious is that A/L was never fired because they were afraid of getting sued for discriminating agains the mentally ill. Well, slap my ass and call me Judy!

Some of them do try to look like performing monkeys....those seem to be the ones that get the most attention because they demand the most attention.

There is a major clue in the part I have put in bold in the above quote.

Does anyone else get it?

There were so many good points on both sides of the argument here. Personally, I am all for free speech but do get upset when LGBT folk are shown by the media to be the extreme. I have no problem with people who want to dress in drag, whether it be in a dress or full leather gear. What I don't like is when middle America thinks that all of us are that extreme that they see in the media. I would never dress in drag unless for Halloween. I would never wear my leather in public unless I am going to a bar or formal function. Am I embarrassed to be seen in public in leather? No. It's just not my thing. As another poster has already mentioned, it's all about education. Each & every one of us can educate the "public" about the "real" LGBT's that we are. All we need to do is be ourselves. Whatever that may be.

Public hate us because of associated public show of sex acts on gay parades. It's cheap, it's sickening even to some gays.

We want marriage and equal right so it's time to dress up and be civilized again.

We want to show to the public that we're not sex animals period.
Then get a float in a parade in which you and your partner can dress up like Ozzie and Harriet or the Huxtables and sit around a staged living room reading the paper, or the kitchen table going over bills. Show whatever side of yourself you want. But don't complain about what others are showing. Or here's an idea: don't go to the damn parade.

I personally think it's time gays stop standing on courthouse steps in tuxedos and wedding gowns demanding that the world celebrate their love. That has arguably proved to be far more harmful to the state of our rights than three decades of decadence on parade. But what do I know?

If every person who attended a Gay Pride Rally or March withheld their taxes for that year, then I'm SURE the government would take notice. But now I'm just thinking aloud on something that would never happen.

Unfortunately, they would probably notice that thousands of tax protesters had gathered in one place and just lock us all up.

In ten years, the gay rights situation in this country will have changed so dramatically, it will be hard to imagine a time when we had to fight so hard for them. I don't get why people pick on gay parades. They were a lot of fun for me when I was a kid and just coming out and flexing my gay muscles for the first time but now they don't hold a lot of interest for me. But, neither does the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, or really any other parade. They are all always the same. And they are all always spectacles. I never see why people get so vexed about the Gay Pride parades.

If we want to show to the general public that we're nothing but a bunch of lustful swinging sex animals, then that will be the public perception.

It's always about sex sex sex sex................

Can we just show the public something that more intellectual folks?

You make a good point, mitch. (and may i say, that avatar is SEXAY!)

I'll never understand why this is OK on nationally broadcast TV, but this is not allowed at a niche market event. Oh, right, it's OK if it's the mainstream culture flaunting it's sexuality, but it's "deviant" if it's a gay man dressing in costume. At least at the gay pride parade we KNOW we're going to see flaunted sexuality. We don't KNOW we're going to see it on network TV.

Perhaps if you weren't so desperately looking for sex, you wouldn't find any?

That kind of gear with that moustache looks so masculine that it is gayer than gay and creeps enough people out gay included.

Beauty Queens, with their rampant femininity, creep a lot of str8 people out, but we don't see threads here about revamping Beauty Pageants, do we? :biggrin1:

The OP would do well to remember that in 1969 it was drag queens and other "undesirables" and somewhat less than media-presentable types that began the Gay Rights movement. He, and a lot of younger, more conservative guys need to keep in mind who paved the way for them. Without those ballsy bitches they'd still be skulking around bus station restrooms.
