Hi kcdave: I highly recommend Rehoboth Beach, Delaware as a great getaway for a gay man or woman. It's a great place where Hubby and I have had a second home for 25 years. If interested in learning more about gay life in that little beach town, be sure to check out Camp Rehoboth. It's a great organization founded about 30 years ago. It has worked wonders to facilitate and improve relationships between the gay and straight communities there. Here's a link to their website:

Rehoboth has some of the nicest beaches on the East Coast IMO. If you go, be sure to make your way down to Poodle Beach, which is where the gay guys all congregate. It's at the South end of the Boardwalk. Off of Queen Street. Yes, you read that right! You'll have no trouble finding it, lol. And if you are ever there on Labor Day weekend, be sure and catch the ultra-popular Drag Volleyball event. It's quite a spectacle. Be aware that you need parking permits to park in non-metered spaces from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
I also recommend Cape Henlopen State Park. It's at the absolute North end of the city. There's a lot of parking available, but you need to get there early or go later in the afternoon as it fills up. You have to pay to get into the parking lot, but it is worth it if you want a more laid back beach experience. To the left of the jetty rocks are where the guys usually hang. You can take dogs on the beach there. To the right is where the ladies usually hang out. Here's a link to the park:

There's quite a viable night life. Wonderful restaurants, from 4 Star to little Mom and Pop diners and whatnot. You won't go hungry for sure. The Blue Moon has Happy Hour every day. It gets busy, so again, go early (usually before 6:00 pm) if you don't want to stand in line to get in. The Blue Moon is also one of Delaware's highest regarded and awarded top restaurants. You can also catch a drag show or see Pamela Stanley, one of their resident vocalists. It's a lot of fun!
Rehoboth is a very walkable town if you stay downtown. The Boardwalk itself is a mile long. A lot of folks also bike around town. Do know that July and August are prime season; it's very busy. Some of our best times have been in September and October, known as the shoulder season. Still have good beach days and cool nights. And the crowds aren't so large then.
Let me know if you have any questions once you've had a chance to peruse the links I've provided. Regardless of where you ultimately choose to go, I hope you have a great vacation and a wonderful time!
