There's a really cute guy in one of my classes but I can't figure out if he's gay or not...

how can i find out without being too brash?

Well asking out of nowhere could be considered rude... Why not just have a talk and get into a subject where you'll mention that you are gay, then it's likely to get him to respond or if not then it wouldn't be that off place to ask "How about you?"

But those are just weird ideas of mine... no guarantee !

Just take him out to coffee, get the conversation turned to personal lives and let it slip in that you're gay. If he's gay, he'll most likely let you know after that. Or could even ask if he has a girlfriend/boyfriend and judge from his response.

I think the coffee idea is good, then get the conversation personal, and try and slip in the "have you got a girlfriend?" question. If he's gay and out he'll probably tell you, if he's gay and closeted or bi and closeted he'll probably dodge the question.
