So happy to see this thread! I didn't vote for President Trump in 2016 (actually voted Green Party), but I took another look at Trump's policies and saw how the economy THRIVED under his leadership. So I switched to Republican in 2018. I did vote for him in 2020 and attended his rally in Ohio!
My experiences with conservatives/GOP have been positive. I've truly felt welcomed as a black, gay man. I hope that the GOP regains the House and Senate in 2022. I'm looking to volunteer for GOP candidates in my area.
Has anyone considered running for office?
Trump’s economy was handed to him from Obama. Then by failing to mitigate the pandemic properly he tanked the economy. You wouldn’t have seen an economy thrive under a new president after only a year. Trump and his administration frequently attacked LGBTQ+ rights.
Nothing about the Green Party aligned at all with Trump and his politics. Trump is far right, Green Party is left, American Green Party isn’t even that far left. Trump held an active stance against the African American community. Under Trump’s leadership, racists in the US became emboldened to show themselves and get loud, while supporting Trump.
Also, if you truly ever were Green Party Trump’s deregulations stand against the core of the Green Party’s beliefs. Green Party are also pacifists and Trump is a pacifist in no way shape or form.
Conservatives and GOP (who actively stand against equal protections for LGBTQIA) do not like POC or LGBTQIA. They like the smoke screen you provide for them, if it comes down to it, you wouldn’t be the one whose back they have.
A person’s ability to be as widely accepted as they are today (and we still have a long way to go) is to the credit of lgbtq+ people that fought for the acceptance, they fought for that primarily against conservatives/GOP and continue to fight against them for the acceptance LGBTQIA has yet to achieve.
Political illiteracy is in its own right an epidemic in the US. You’re a perfect example of that.
