nice, just as long as you don't respond to suicidal people in a suicidial way...

now we should feed the fundies THAT interpretation
BronxBombshell said:I just fail to see how that applies to a message board. Is someone planning to perpetrate violence against one of our posters? Many of the other posters on this thread stated that most posts give up the gender of the poster in their contexts, and the rest, simply do not require the reader to know the poster's gender. Someone may have accepted Pichulon's examples on their face, but they really were piss poor. All of his examples made the reader curious about sexual orientation, not gender. At least that's what I remember thinking as I read them.

If that information is witheld or denied one has to respect that and move on or respond accordingly or generically. There are many reasons why one would withold this information and I don't see any need to make it compulsory, any more than age, or orietntation because quite correctly 99% of the time it's 100% irrelevant....
BronxBombshell said:I am going to have to agree with the majority on this one, especially after many private exchanges with Pichulon. He has no questions, only preconceived notions on which he will not permit persuasion (so do I, but I don't go around asking questions!). He's got deep-seated bigotry against homosexuals. He claims to love and protect women, but his speech just seems to make most of us feel pidgeon-holed and subjugated.
BronxBombshell said:....Pichulon said exactly the right things to piss us off. I think if his abhorence for certain people had been overt, he'd never have been so viciously attacked. But becasue (dare I say it?) his biases were veiled behind politeisms and niceties, people took a special delight in making him stop.

In a sense, LPSG was a place of refuge for everyone tired of the hypocrisy and closed-mindedness found on most message boards. Now, it's the same as pretty much everywhere else (in my experience). Not including sites that are committed to the advancement of an agenda (DailyKos, Stormfront, etc.), obviously.Lex said:I don't think a lot of people really understand how good you have it here in terms of being able to speak your mind.
This is rather unusual.Lex said:Mrs. Lex belongs to a BrokeBack Mountain forum. On that site, there are many threads, but only the Mods can start threads. No poster can start a new topic.
Two Moderators here on LPSG edited my posts without warning. Both said I didn't break any rules (when asked).Lex said:When posters break any of the rules (talking about Health or Jake in a fiction thread), posts are deleted without warning or discussion. A rule: Don't reply and quote a post with a pic, making the pic get copied again. If you do, you post will be deleted or edited. Without warning.
Sure. It could be a lot better, too.Lex said:It could be a LOT worse.

Of course not. Did you not read Lex's post?naughty said:Oh Frank!
Are you still mad about that? LOL!
They have been given the option to withold this information about themselves. I wouldn't refuse them this option. Your solution would be to simply ask the questions that you need to ask to help you construct your reply.pichulon said:I have come across the uncomfortable situation of not knowing how to address, or, interpret the replies some members post, because they have no gender or sexual orientation in their profile and in their description right next to the post. Without that information, it is not understandable and the appropiate reply is not easy to construct.
