George Carlin Has Died

ET breaks the news that comedian George Carlin has died from heart failure. The man who made famous the "seven words you can never say on television" passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, his longtime publicist said. He was 71.

Carlin, who has had several heart attacks and a history of cardiac issues, went into the hospital this afternoon after complaining of heart problems.

Carlin has more than 20 comedy albums, 14 HBO specials, numerous TV and movie roles, and three best-selling books to his credit. Last year, he celebrated his 50th year in show business, and he had just finished his last HBO special in March, "It's Bad for Ya."

He was the guy who taught me the Book of the Road. *sigh* What a loss.

Thanks for sharing the news; I hadn't heard it yet.

:frown1::wink::frown1: I hadn't heard either, but I read a post on an entertainment website. My guess is that most people like him.

OH NO! I have always LOVED George Carlin!
He was truly one of the great comedic talents of the last 50 years. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

I was just thinking about him, and his observational humor, when recently bringing up a Chris Rock joke in a post.

One of the last things I remember him in was Jersey Girl (2004)

I also remember that he had a short lived sitcom.

I loved his earlier stuff the best (seven dirty words)

George Carlin was the funniest man. He had a lot of espirit de coeur and didn't always have to curse to deliver funny insight. That is a true sign and delivery of a professional comic. To be able to always see a joke in observing the most mundane and obscure things and situations.

What a true artist.

I read somewhere else that he played a gig here in NJ last week.

His website has tour dates for dates as early as July 20th, 2008.

Very sad indeed.

RIP George. My momma actually let me watch his tapes when I was younger.

He was the other of a few of my favorite quotes:

" Stop sucking my dick or I'll call the police! "

" I've seen things you'll never see , like a person running down the street taking a shit! "

" Cats think they have eyebrows but it's really just a bunch of shit coming out of their face "
