Hi all!

I'm on a bit of a fitness overhaul this year and as well as intense workouts to focus on core areas I want to make aesthetically pleasing (arms, chest and abs especially), I also want to keep my cardiovascular health in tip top condition.

As an all rounder for cardio fitness, running seems like it could be perfect for me! Also helps with legs hopefully!

Has anyone got any good time to introduce me to running, any apps, smart wear, gadgets and even what to wear! Any tips please let me know!

C25k is an app that worked well to get me back into running. you gradually condition your body and build endurance. you may not have to worry, but your joints and tendons will need time to adapt to the stress, and sufficient rest is mandatory. the app has you running 3x/wk, which is perfect. in 9 weeks you’ll be running 5k with ease.

Yep, I second that. There are a lot of apps for Couch 2 5K. It will feel very pedestrian at first, but go with it. I am working up to my first half marathon now and running 10K just feels routine now. Continue the strength work in the gym too - you don’t really need bulk, but you need condition and you especially need your glutes firing and quads strong (although huge is not necessary at all)!

You don't need to buy a load of fancy stuff and gadgets that will just end up in your shed or garage. Just make sure you have the basics: proper running shoes and suitable attire including running socks and then actually do the running. If you keep it up for any length of time then buy more stuff as and when. If you have the kind of mindset where you need help from an app, or various stuff to make it easier then you are already setting yourself up for failure. You will achieve more by being hard on yourself rather than being overly concerned with comfort and style at this point. Are you a "millennial" ?

I think the best way to start - and especially keep running, is finding a group or club. Knowing that other people are waiting to run with you is a great motivator.

Upsides are also running longer, more structured (if there's a coach), variation between technique and distance - and of course the chance to speak to other people while running.

I'm out running almost every day and it's been years since I've done it alone. It's just better in a group.
