Rule of thumb as the detectors are hypersensitive is... if it comes off, take it off before passing through. Every alarm triggers protocols that slow down your journey and may even result in flags or restrictions if you get belligerent or upset. If you have multiple piercings list and number them on a sheet of paper that also shows on a model body close to where they are. Alert the agent and search before passing the detectors and have security pad the sheet forward. This will make the search easier and potentially less invasive. Wood plastic and rubber rings and other jewelry can replace metal for travel.

Interesting experience recently at a full body scanner. Female security was watching the screen. She conferred with another agent and I was asked to come with the guard after the scanner, he said something was seen in the scan that they wanted to check out. Of course I complied. We went into a private room with another security agent (both dudes) I asked what they saw, they wouldn't say. Stripped to my boxers. Nothing to find so far, one of the poor dudes had to fully hand search me through the boxers. Every single square inch was touched. Lots around the cock and under between my rod and balls. I usually hang low and am very much a shower. It was over pretty quick and I was released with no explanation. I feel bad for the dude that had to do the job and thought if I was a more bashful person the exam was incredibly personal and I think some may have not been ok with a thin cotton layer being the only thing between some dudes fingers and your a-hole and fun bitsOdd experience but what I really wanted was to see the scan and know exactly what was seen and what they hoped to find. No answers for me so I took it as a weird form of flattery.

Amazed at some of these responses. I have had a PA for over 4 years and travel frequently for work. Have never taken it out, been questioned, frisked, examined etc. I empty my pockets, take off belt and shoes and breeze through security regularly with. I issue wearing my PA.

I had one time years ago that I set off the magnetometer, was asked to step aside, when the wand went off again I answered affirmative when asked "body jewelry?", then was let go. I have since flown dozens of times without taking off a thick stainless cockring and never had an issue. Not even with the new body scanners.
