Why not just fly her over to spend Christmas / New Year with you - I guess maybe she's not free to?

Failing that, a nice rifle? (oh wait - I'm thinking of me there - still, she might appreciate)

Does she have room in her life for a pedigree pooch? Shares in a racehorse? (hang on - I'm going a bit Monopoly there). How about an original piece of art? I love getting paintings as gifts - the choice can be really personal to both of you. You should be able to view stuff online / electronically by arrangement with a gallery near her and get it delivered.

How about a weekend in Chicago, or fly her to Italy for lunch (that would probably cost more though). Are there any big projects that need to be done in her house? Does she like roses...you could buy a lot of rose bushes for that amount and everytime they bloom she'd think of you. Does she have a favorite charity?
