Gingrich Floats Possibility of 2012 Presidential Run

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday he'd seriously consider running for president in 2012. With the mantle of the Republican Party still unclaimed, Gingrich told reporters in Ashland, Va., before a speech to Randolph-Macon College that he and his family would examine the political environment in early 2011, and "look seriously at whether or not we think it's necessary to do it." "And if we think it's necessary we'll probably do it. And if it isn't necessary we probably won't do it," he said, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Thank God I have a valid passport cause I will have to move to Tuscany if that fat, lying, cheating, druggy weasel wins the presidency.

What leads you to believe that you would be allowed to stay indefinitely in Italy?

I was so disappointed when Alec Baldwin broke his promise to move out of the United States when Bush II was elected. Perhaps he had trouble finding a suitable place of refuge.

I already looked into it I've planned on retiring there for years.

What leads you to believe that njqt hasn't done her homework? And what does Alec Baldwin have to do with Newt Gingrich's political plans? Snark much?

2012 is just around the corner.

At the rate they are going, the Republicans will, in 2012 STILL have no cogent policy, no defensible argument, and no political stake in any economic recovery.

Ergo, no Republican will win the presidency in 2012.

Americans have short memories... but they WILL have the monthly statements from their retirement accounts to remind them of what GOPs in power did to them.

Right now... the Republican 'strategy' is to oppose every measure that has a prayer of ameliorating the situation...

and HOPE that the economy tanks even further by 2012.
They think that spectacular failure ( that is, worse than what we already have seen ) is their only hope of regaining power.

and THAT means that republicans, over the next 3 years, will be actively trying to sabotage the economy, because their lust for power exceedes their concern over the nation. Just like the larcenous short sellers who really fucked the stock market.. the GOP is BANKING on economic failure.

They would happily flush the US down the toilet to get elected.

But I think this strategy is a lose lose game.

If the economy gets worse, the blame will largely go to those very Republicans who try so hard to stymie all efforts to address the crisis. Obama will come across as at least TRYING everything he could. Republicans will appear indolent and lazy and unwilling to roll up their sleeves.

If the economy gets even marginally better, then the Republicans look like obstructionist idiots who haven't a clue about economics. ( which would actually be a valid assessment )

Either way...
they lose.

The only hope for the GOP is to shitcan the shit for brains doofi they currently are parading, cut Limbaugh off at the knees, and get SERIOUS about re-thinking their economic policies, coming up with some new ideas.... and demonstrating the civic virtue of pulling together.

They were all over the airwaves about how, in a time of war, everyone should pull for the president.

Well what we are in is far more threatening than Al Queda ever dreamed to be.

And Republicans look like they are willing to drown the nation in favor of their political ideology.

Obama gets a second term, no matter what, unless the Republicans go to rehab, admit their disease, and make amends for the spectacular failure of their bumper sticker thinking.

Truth told, Republicans DON'T have a plan! For all the news coverage that they're getting regarding objections to the stimulus package, Republicans have hardly an iota of alternative beyond romanticized talk. They want to reduce taxes, but have no means of definitively recovering lost or ineffective monies to compensate for it. They call these measures "socialist," "Communist," and "Marxist," but abuse the terminology in doing so. They say "no," but can't create a "yes" in effective policy.

I'm all for a healthy debate on economic and political issues, but the Republicans are coming to the table as if they crammed at the last minute. Worse yet, I have to agree with Arianna Huffington in saying that the Republicans, led by Rove, are trying to do this revisionist history. It's as if the Democrats fucked things up 12 plus years ago, even though Clinton left office with a surplus. Bush annihilated that and drove us another $800 billion in the hole, and somehow the Repubs are to cast blame. If fiscal responsibility was as important as they would claim, they would have been the party of no back when Bush was shoving shit through the legislature.

All I gotta say is, good luck. That wunderkind at CPAC can run for office in 22 years. It'll take about that long for the elephants to get back on track.

By 2012, The American people will know well who caused the this economic disaster and it was in fact the democrats, not the republicans. The democratic party has been pushing for thirty years to makes home loans more affordable for folks who have no business owning a home despite Republican calls for reform and REGULATION at freddie and fannie. It was the democrats through Carter, Clinton, Dodd, Frank and company who's reckless policies of forces banks to issue these risky loans.

By 2012, we will see again another round of foreclosures from those who have their mortgages reset, not because they are still to expensive, but because they are deadbeats who never should have had a mortgage in the first place.

By 2012, we will still be economic turmoil, this time caused by double digit inflation due to the Obama's nearly 5 trillion dollars in printed, devalueing paper.

By 2012, The American people will realize that when Obama took office, he had the opportunity to put the economy first but instead opted to put his ideology first by raising taxes, increasing regulations across the board, both further slowing businesses from growing and creating jobs.

By 2012, the american people will witness iran become nuclear why Obama stands around, stuttering into a camera, doing nothing about it, as the rest of the world stands in amazement at our weakest leader in history.

By 2012, the american people will be so disenchanted by obama, the democratic party, and the media, that they will hopefully want somone without the hollywood soap opera glamour, with true experience who can bring america out of the rut through tried and true policies...some like Newt Gingrich. If for no other reason, Gingrich is perhaps the most feared republican amoung democrats because he has the ability to make his opponents look stupid. I hope he runs, and i also hope you all leave the country. It will help prevent another "Obama" from happening in the future.

Newt was supposed to run in 1996 and he even announced for 2008 as well.

Seems like Newt just likes announcing his possible intention to run and never actually does so.

Fact is, announcing he's running is good for his speaking fees. Anyone who actaully believes this man is going to run for President is being taken for a ride.

Aside from the fact that this post must have made you feel great getting all that bile off your chest (remember: bitterness has health ramifications), you've concisely outlined why the Republican party will spend the next dozen years in the wilderness, shrunk to a shrill base huddled around their AM radios waiting for the next talking point to emerge. You deserve to be congratulated for that.

I know that memory is not a strong suit among the party loyal, so here's the Cato Institute riffing off the "ownership society" craze that coincided nicely with the tail end of the real estate bubble.

Here's the Wikipedia entry about the same topic.

Here's an article in Newsweek titled The End of the Ownership Society, dated October 11, 2008, when the meltdown started.

Here's a article in CounterPunch titled Wall Street's Collapse and the Ownership Society dated December 31, 2008.

Going on the Heritage Foundation's website and searching "ownership society" brings up dozens of articles, most written 4-5 years ago, but this one actually says that the 2004 election mandated ownership in January, 2005.

By 2012, I imagine we'll have been wondering where 24065 went for 3 1/2 years.

I won't. I am sure he will not last very long around these parts......I called him on his Bull-shit months ago. I'm betting he has been warned about his explosive gratuitous use of profanity and personal insults, and it's only a matter of time before he completely blows it. I hope i can help him in that regard.

Bbucko......your far too kind, Humoring an idiot like that.
Acrid bile indeed.

Seeing as how the median price of real estate in Boones Mill has tanked to below $100,000 (from a high of over $250,000 in Q4 2006), it's no wonder somebody has a cranky. But it's always a pleasure hearing from the "real" Virginia.
