Sklar, that was a tremendous post, I agree with every point you made.

If someone holds themselves up as an example, then fine- but BE an example. What I can't stomach is people assuming to direct moral values, but then refusing to uphold those values themselves. The word "hypocrisy" has been used so often it's lost its meaning, but what else can you say?

You're right that the dems haven't held themselves up to that standard, and probably for very good reason. I mean, who was really surprised that BC had his hoo-hoo in an intern's mouth? I mean, didn't every one of us think immediately "Well, he's probably not getting any from Hilary"? I know I did. But when has ANY president's affairs been the matter of a national televised investigation and impeachment? Anyone stupid enough not to know that half the men voting against him were having affairs too is just an idiot. This isn't a republican problem, it's a people problem. We ALL do it, you and I included.

Until people start giving a shit what is and is not real, and agree to start telling the fucking truth as a habit, we are going to get the shitty governments we deserve, regardless of party. Yes, the repubs are annoying because they brag and posture, when everyone knows they're just as bad as everyone else, and their haughty attitude makes them worse. But then there's the dems, who claim to be for the working people. They have identified how horrific it is to bilk the public, but instead of doing anything about a flawed and corrupt system they keep it open just far enough to stick their own fat hands in. They know better, that makes it worse. Who's worse? Whoever does the most damage, which can only be the ones in control.

At this point, the damage done by the bush admin in undeniable. I don't care how much party loyalty anyone feels, you just can't in good conscience support a system with this many loose wires. Nearly every aspect of our governmental infrastructure has been exposed as having been corrupted by goals counterproductive to reason, and reality in general. EPA reports being doctored- the fucking EPA! I mean, I don't want to appear ignorant, but how can you demand to change a scientific report?

n00t is just another symptom of the greater disease. We can't accept a massive attempt to alter reality such as we have been enduring. We can't keep shuddering and swooning every time we hear someone is having an affair. We can't keep telling our kids to "just say no" and not expect an increase in teen pregnancies and the spread of disease. We just can't conintue to be so naive, and act like we have a right to be that way.
That's what I'm seeing in all of this.

It comes down to this---the whole fucking government, from the neighborhood action committe in your home town, to the highest levels of federal government is totally corrupt---they have only had themselves to police them forever now---and ANY attempt to question or provide oversite, which is only done feebly by the supreme court at this stage, is met with much wailing by BOTH parties about how the courst shouldn;t be interfereing in the business of government. And therin lies the key to the problem. Government HAS become a business--with investers, stockhoders, boards of directors, and every dirty shady unpleasant deal that businesses try so hard to avoid getting caught at. Being a public servant was NEVER intended to be a posh, self serving job. If governement was actually run as intended, NOBODY would want to be a politician---they would have to draft people to be congressmen and presidents. THe only hope I see is to kick every single stinking sitting politicial out of office, and hope that the chaos that insues leads to SOME form of change. As long as we let Jabba the HUt sit on his fat ass in a cushy power weilding enviroment, then you are going to continue to get EXACTLY what you have been getting from them--self serving, corrupt, weasling, backpeddling, back stabbing, whining worthless bullshit. You want change? then vote every damn sitting politician out of office en masse. Onesy twosy doesn;t cut it--that allows the system to self propogate. GOvernment has become like a huge metastisized cancer---you can;t kill it by hitting one section. We've come to the time when only total body irradiation and a bone marrow transplant from someone compatable has any chance of saving us. Those of you who stand by the "my party, right or wrong" whatever that party is, should be taken out and flogged for what you have done to this country! Shame on you!

Excuse me? Please tell me how I'm attacking republicans, please tell me how I have democratic buddies... Hint: see my post above #32.

Born again? Didn't he already claim to be a born again way back when he was still Mr Speaker?
My, but aren't you an overly sensitive little snit.

Sklar - thanks for your post. Well said. I know that's not easy, but thank you.

Silentc, I'm scared. You and I agreed. That's cool, though, I'm sure something good has to come of it.

Onslow, you were on good behavior for many months. Now, in this thread you have posted twice - the first time to make personal attacks, the second time to resort to petty name calling. You did this in another thread recently. Please get back on your meds. You are much more pleasant to be around when you aren't being so petty.

lol it is funny how we can agree on Gingrich being a scumbag, but not about something as basic (in my view) as incest. Oh well. I am glad to see we agree on something.

Name calling? Where? Referring to you as a sensitive snit was not name calling, it was an observation, just as you saying I am being petty is your opinion (my name is not Tom so how could i be Petty?) And do you really want me back on some of those medications? Have you forgotten the vitriol I was spewing about a year ago? --Check the archives if you have had such a memory loss.

Lastly, I did not know I was limited to one post per topic--my mistake.

Oh dear, this is going to be my third post in this thread--someone had better summon the guards.

Oh mercy me! I erred dreadfully in that last post, and DCDeep may never forgive me--it was in fact my fourth posting in the thread. This will be my fifth.

Sklar, I would be interested to hear your views on something. As a traditionally conservative person, how do you view your party's interest in legislating morality? This is a point of contention for me, as I was always under the impression that traditional conservatives were in favor of less government. See, I am conservative in that respect too- I want less government, and the limits on the government to be clearly outlined, and abuses prosecuted.

I feel there should only be skeletal social programs, and those aimed at rehabilitation and return to being productive and contributing members of society. Other than for the truly disabled, I don't support permanent welfare. I find the practise of having babies to get more handouts to be abhorent, and would like to see it ended post-haste.

The current repubs have got themselves into a sticky place by coming out so strongly against abortion, but not making provisions for who will pay for the children of the desperately poor, and drug addicted. I don't want to raise other people's kids, why can't the repubs see that this is the only logical result? I mean, it's great to just say "be perfect, in every way" but it hardly addresses reality as it stands. If we encourage every fertilised seed to be born, whether it was conceived through an act of love, or a broken condom, then who's going to pay for that? It is clear from the evidence long collected that the desperately poor become poorer when there are more mouths to feed, so how is this issue seen by conservatives?

I get so sick of hearing that people should just stop fucking, that doesn't deal with anything. I'd like a realistic answer to what is expected. I really think that people should have the amount of kids they are willing and able to support, and not have the government tell them they are also responsible for raising accidents of birth control failure for 18 years. That's a punishment that doesn't fit the crime. Opinions?

Now you do know. You have been warned.

If that will make you happy.

I will never forgive you. And your sarcasm is not well-crafted. Stick with the blunt stuff.
