Sklar, that was a tremendous post, I agree with every point you made.
If someone holds themselves up as an example, then fine- but BE an example. What I can't stomach is people assuming to direct moral values, but then refusing to uphold those values themselves. The word "hypocrisy" has been used so often it's lost its meaning, but what else can you say?
You're right that the dems haven't held themselves up to that standard, and probably for very good reason. I mean, who was really surprised that BC had his hoo-hoo in an intern's mouth? I mean, didn't every one of us think immediately "Well, he's probably not getting any from Hilary"? I know I did. But when has ANY president's affairs been the matter of a national televised investigation and impeachment? Anyone stupid enough not to know that half the men voting against him were having affairs too is just an idiot. This isn't a republican problem, it's a people problem. We ALL do it, you and I included.
Until people start giving a shit what is and is not real, and agree to start telling the fucking truth as a habit, we are going to get the shitty governments we deserve, regardless of party. Yes, the repubs are annoying because they brag and posture, when everyone knows they're just as bad as everyone else, and their haughty attitude makes them worse. But then there's the dems, who claim to be for the working people. They have identified how horrific it is to bilk the public, but instead of doing anything about a flawed and corrupt system they keep it open just far enough to stick their own fat hands in. They know better, that makes it worse. Who's worse? Whoever does the most damage, which can only be the ones in control.
At this point, the damage done by the bush admin in undeniable. I don't care how much party loyalty anyone feels, you just can't in good conscience support a system with this many loose wires. Nearly every aspect of our governmental infrastructure has been exposed as having been corrupted by goals counterproductive to reason, and reality in general. EPA reports being doctored- the fucking EPA! I mean, I don't want to appear ignorant, but how can you demand to change a scientific report?
n00t is just another symptom of the greater disease. We can't accept a massive attempt to alter reality such as we have been enduring. We can't keep shuddering and swooning every time we hear someone is having an affair. We can't keep telling our kids to "just say no" and not expect an increase in teen pregnancies and the spread of disease. We just can't conintue to be so naive, and act like we have a right to be that way.
That's what I'm seeing in all of this.
