Wondering if anyone else here has seen this article about the guy who started Girls Gone Wild.

I think it's despicable, but I am not surprised.

I was amazed that all the girls get for exposing themselves and making this guy filthy rich are GGW t-shirts. I wonder if they say "I made Joe Francis a millionaire and all I got was this lousy T-shirt"...

    Blechhh, what a pig.

It's also a sad comment on our society that these teenage girls are so quick to disrobe because "it's like your 15 minutes of fame." They don't want to do anything or accomplish anything, they just want to be famous (and rich). Maybe I'll raise my kids in Greenland.

People just want to be accepted. Young women are impressionable and want to feel pretty.

I think it's sick, honestly, but somehow I can't help but feel like I'm standing in an art gallery looking at a particular painting saying "This sucks! I coulda drawn that shit."

Then my friend points to the $400 pricetag near the sketch and says "Yeah...but you didn't."

The entertainment value of these vids is only underminded by the deliberate duping of over ambitious minds so willing to make their mark , they'll do anything.

I guess that is why his videos feature mostly drunk or semi-drunk girls. I'm with SurferGirl on this one, it gives a very sad reading of the state of young women. Exposing yourself and your innermost shit on afternoon talkshows is past, and seems like a highly cultural affair, compared to playing around with other girls and have that taped and broadcast on the net.

I think last year there's been a case in the news of some norwegian girls who financed their high school graduation party by selling the rights to a porn production company, which then did a pseudo-documentary, interviewing the girls about their sexual behavior and even taping the sex of the company's male star with them. There's even been a second part of that. It happened to be a big scandal, especially after some of the involved girls were shocked to find out that making a contract with a porn production meant that you had to have sex with someone.

The willingness to do anything for a few minutes of fame and feeling flattered is one thing. An incredible naivity is the other thing.

I commented on that article on the celebrity thread.

At the time I believed it to be a feminist hit piece on Joe Francis. The L.A. Times sent a divinity student to interview the guy? However, since then I've changed my opinion, greatly influenced by my wife and sister-in-law who believe he's an unattractive nouveau riche punk. I tend to agree.

read it too, and yeah -- EW. ew ew ew.

    but really, is anyone surprised?

(if I ever have a baby girl I am just going to be in a tizzy raising her to be sex-positive but not interested in using sex in transactions for attention, money, or otherwise. what a minefield it is these days, more so than in years past.)

My personal take on him is that big kids like him deserve a kick in their nuts and a few punches in their face. I guess I'm facing a ban for this explicit call to the arms, but its just my personal opinion.

Neither do I know what this stuff has to do with first amendment. This is the age-old fight between the rights of privacy and the freedom of speech / freedom of the press. I wasn't a very good girl myself most of the time, but those were the days when video cameras were chunky huge things that needed extra battery bags and costed you a few grand, and before you could purchase a near-professional camera equipment with cutter software at your local electronics store for a hundred bucks.

The jurisdictional interpretation of the First Amendment needs some serious re-discussion and adaption to the actual standards.

Our country's culture is going to pot. This guy should be seen as white trash, but a lot of young people think he's Mr. Cool. Those girls are behaving as if they're trailer trash, but they think they're glamorous.

    1. The videos aren't even that decent, I guess older men are just desperate.
    2. There are a lot worse human beings walking this earth; by now the girls in the clubs know what the premise is, and are clearly willing to comply. He isn't taking advantage of the girls, just the market.
    3. Sure they may be intoxicated, but don't they have to sign a waiver to allow him to show them in his videos?
    4. This is just a big deal over nothing.

Try not to punch your fist through the screen the 47th time he complains of being unfairly maligned by the media.

Does a generation make its times, or does a time make its generation?

Actually well observed, he profits from the kids adoring him and being willing to do anything, and from a market of drooling old men who pop a stiffie at the sight of two 18-year-olds frenching or flashing some tits or ass. And of course from a legal system that protects anyone publishing any shit by giving him opportunity to hide behind the "Freedom of speech". Duh, like he was publishing political theses.

I remain with my point of view. A few punches in his face and a few kicks in his balls.

SurferGirlCa, Joe Francis must have been the BMOC in his days at Laguna Beach High School and USC. :fest30: For guys like him throwing a party and getting women drunk are their modus operandi: also the only way they can get laid.
