I think there is a tendency for all or most of us to generalize based on our own experiences or personal preferences. The world doesn't live in a vacuum though, so not everyone experiences the same things or has even seen the same things. 6x6 or 8x5 probably is a better comparison since those, I'm guessing, are a little more common, plus have a relative size to compare as thick and I guess thin. I just think it's a little easier for someone (who's had size) to say 9x5.5 isn't that big, as compared to someone who's never seen it and wants to run to hills.
