A kiss is a kiss is a kiss ... a token of affection between two people ... hardly a metaphor for sexual orientation ... should matter naught to the observer!
Chill, donkeyboy! You just want to deprive a few mentally unbalanced people of part of their "freak-out arsenal." Just kidding, of course. No offense, Gisella, but although I understand WHAT it is that bothers you, I just can't comprehend the WHY. How people can justify double standards in their own minds is simply beyond my capacity for understanding.

Guys kissing each other on the cheek is becoming more and more common here. It's almost a trend! Especially in the art/fashion/nightlife industry I am in and in urban environments. Straight, bi or gay, these men don't care (typical dutch greeting between friends of a different sex is three kisses on the cheek, now men and women do it to the same sex often too).

Now French kissing is another thing, I don't really like to see people French kissing when the situation is unappropriate (e.d. in a restaurant), but I still think it's a bad thing that a straight couple can kiss everywhere without feeling ashamed and a gay couple won't get the same kind of acceptance.

One thing that I noticed, was the mention that girls don't like seeing boys kiss. This is just wrong. There are whole genres devoted to this. There is Yaoi (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaoi) on the anime side, and then there's "slash fiction" (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash_fiction), which is sometimes called the America equivalent of Yaoi. Both focus on homosexual male relationships, and were originally aimed at a female audience, and most typically written by women.

Yeah, the idea that girls don't like watching guys kiss is wrong, @ least in my experience. Some of my close girl friends ( so of witch ive actually hooked up w/) have said that they think its hot when guys kiss ( of course i oblige them w/ the right guy) Now, it seems (majority) girls are not nearly as vocal about the fascination as guys are (to girl on girl action)

just my $0.02

I must admit this is a question i find myself not being able to answer, mostly because i love the thought of 2 men together.

With my guy (ex) i knew he wanted to be with another man and we always said that if he was then i could watch, but as much as i love that i would find it a turn on but id probably uncomfortable to see him really full on kissing another man. I dont really know why, maybe because sex is only sex but kissing can be even more intimate than that.

As for girls kissing, Id say most girls it is more of a case of putting on a show for the guys and liking the attention they get from it. Id find it hard to believe that a true lesbian would make out in the centre of a crowd of cheering guys

There are some very interesting views with this post. I think that kissing is a form of affection. We all were kissed by our parents as children. It was Okay, but once we all grew up and we let society tell us whats acceptable.
It really bothers me that straight couple feel it's Okay to kiss and hug each other in public. Regardless of what others may think. Two men doing this in public is a crude or rude display and should not happen...what kind of crap is that?
Let's turn the tables. If straight couples thought about how it would make them feel if others thought that their display of affection was rude or crude. Would things change?
Just a different view...

Ehhh...it's a mere double standard.

I actually don't think just two girls kissing is hot...it's more of a sign of "you want her more than me?"...prolly unless they wanted me to join in...but that's different. Just some lesbians? If they're true lesbians, then they don't want a man...so it's not that hot. But two straight girls grinding on each other and sending me the signal to join in...oh yeah...that's hot. Only happened once, but definately hot.

Some girls do enjoy two guys. In fact, on my internship yesterday, a lady was like she had a dream about two guys doin it and it turned her on...*shrugs*

Different strokes for different folks, I presume.

yep, it's a double standard, but this world is full of hypocrisy, ain't it!

guys are afraid of emotional displays or anything that undermines them being in control, for the most part. many times.

I will NEVER forget this one day during my junior year. One of our school's most popular guys was moving. He was not a jock or anything, but he was extremely popular, just your average run-of-the-mill all-American kid. I mean, HUGELY popular. He was straight, too. There was absolutely nothing gay about him and he had girlfriends that were known to have slept with him.

On his last day, there were a lot of people that cried and gave him hugs, but it was after school that the real moment came. He and this one other dude were like best buds, inseparable. There was a rather large gathering of about thirty to forty people in the main hallway after school just wishing the kid goodbye and giving him farewell presents. Well, as he was leaving, he and his best bud gave each other the biggest bear hug ever and as they pulled away, kissed one another on the lips in front of everyone. It lasted probably no more than five seconds, but the great thing is that no one said anything.

Well, they thought it was touching, cute, but no one was grossed out by it or screamed out in disgust. I expected an "Ew" from the group of people, but instead I got an "Aww". Maybe it was because he was so popular and they knew he was straight, but for whatever reason, I was so happy that they felt confident enough to do that.

It's because most guys are afraid to be someone's bitch. If two guys merely hug without hitting each others' backs then they're gay, and in a gay relationship someone needs to be the bitch and take it up the ass. That scares the hell out of them. That's also why they are such pathetic, frightened pansies when it comes to putting something up their ass (such as a dildo). I'm a strait guy but I've had more gay experiences than strait. That's because I know it's fucking retarded to be afraid of homosexuality like a child and let myself experiment with my gay male friends.

Most straight men are too insecure about their own sexuality. I feel that most straight men feel like they can basically be talked into anything.

Why straight men find two women kissing is beyond me...I don't even like seeing two straight people kissing.:biggrin1:

There's something, I don't know, humanizing about seeing two men kiss. Because most men are supposed to be these big, non-mushy doofuses, who care only about getting laid and if the Yankees win.

Can't wait to try some smoochin for meself someday. :biggrin1:

Is there a rule with women that doesn't apply to men that keeps their heterosexuality in tact and without scrutiny? No, when two women french kiss they are exhibiting homosexual behavior. The real question is why does this turn straight men on...  I'm not asking because I'm bothered I can't do it. I have absolutely no interest in kissing another man..not that there's anything wrong with it. But I've seen this on TV or in movies so many times I just wanted to ask...why?

Ok, I'm gonna try and keep this short and sweet.

It's okay for women to kiss because in the past they were seen as the property of men. Women's lives were nothing if not in the service of a man. So, these days, some cultures still believe that; in America it has changed somewhat, but men still hold the majority of the power. To this day women are considered the playthings of powerful men... case in point: strip clubs and the Playboy Mansion. Of course, some women (READ: Sorority Chicks) still cater to that misogyny.

Homophobia started with the Stoics and the early christian Fathers of the Church in 4th Cent. BC. It spread to the Romans, English, Americans and so forth. Everywhere the English or Americans have colonized they have spread homophobia. Here's a great article: The Roots of Homophobia

I believe male homosexuality is banned and criminalized in India but lesbianism isn't against the law because it doesn't exist. The logic? Women are to serve men and have babies, they have no sexuality of their own... what could they possibly do w/o a man around? Thus the huge hoopla in 1996 when the movie "Fire" came out.

Fact: In Nazi Germany, over 100,000 male homosexuals (regardless of race) were imprisoned. Over 10,000 were gassed or killed, and to be a homo in a concentration camp was the lowest of the low. There were only FIVE cases of lesbians being sent to concentration camps throughout the war. The German anti-sodomy law Paragraph 175 only targeted males and wasn't revoked until 1994 after German re-unification. Lesbians didn't exist because they could be used for breeding purposes to produce more Aryan children.

Homophobia and misogyny got codified about the same time by the same people that villified sex outside of procreation. Almost everyone on this board would've been burned at the stake for witchcraft or worshipping the devil/penis during those times.

Knowledge is power!

On a lighter note, and especially for Gisella, here's a video of Francois Sagat and Francesco D'Macho kissing... they are now a couple:

For whatever reason, people generally assume that once men 'cross the Rubicon' and engage in homosexual activity, they ain't crossing back.

Obviously assuming makes an ass out of all of us, but that seems to be the fear...
