I find it odd. The one I have is 6.5". It was even listed as such on the package. I've seen it listed as anything from 5.5 (including the YouTube clip with Shane) over 6.5 to 7 at various sites.

The 5.5" had to be a gaffe - must have meant 6.5". From 6.5 to 7, I honestly think it's a question about slack and rounding up.
