No, but Glen Beck isn't Adolph Hitler. But that doesn't change the basic tenant of my argument: love your enemies (that doesn't mean we go up to them and give them lots of kisses and beg them to be our friends). We recognize their evil doings and know that bad karma is coming their way; we then wish them well and move on.
I'm no fake: there are people I really dislike. But it's best to ignore them and wish them well. If we sit and dwell on how mean they are, we become depressed since we can't change them, or rectify the situation.
Feeling hate doesn't make you feel good. Let it go and focus on love and beauty.
I'm breathing a beautiful breath right now There is beautiful sunshine. I'm just so happy. God, I love my breath and the sunshine. What more do I need?
Pranayama!!!!!
Hate beating a horse to death, but since you got a "bravo", I'm going to.
So... in this happy world of rainbows and unicorns where you reside, you can "dislike" Glenn Beck and just leave it at that? IMHO, that's noble, but pretty short-sighted. If everybody had just "disliked" Hitler and never lifted a finger during the late 20s and early 30s when he was spouting off his populist message that essentially dehumanized the Jewish population, he would have eventually risen to power. Oh wait. Nobody
did lift a finger.
Now, I heard you about how "Glenn Beck isn't Hitler", but do you really need me to point out the "hate" elements in his speeches and TV programs? Come on! How do you think the National Socialist party started in Germany? (Here's a hint: it wasn't by killing any Jews. It was just talking about the reasons why the German economy was in the tank. You've heard that old saw about the slippery slope?)
Besides, it's not just Glenn Beck, it's the people who follow Glenn Beck. It's convenient to ignore people you don't like and probably very reaffirming to know that you haven't wished them ill... but I think you have to call a spade a spade: Glenn Beck preaches fear, hate, and yes, racism. He is evil. He feeds off of, fuels, and
profits from the fears of ordinary citizens. I will return to my original post, where I was pointing out to
DJG that this isn't simply somebody to whom you 'turn the other cheek':
DJG... you forget that the person who falsely yells 'Fire!' in a crowded movie theater is guilty of criminal activity.
There is a huge difference between reporting on the news, commenting on the news, and inventing news or twisting the reporting of news to satisfy a political agenda.
. . .
I'm really sorry about Glenn Beck's vision. Really, I am. But... there's something like
10 million people with macular degneration; let's channel our sympathies towards them. In the meantime, let's not forget who or what we're talking about here.
