My own sister (48 years old), who used to be a radical pansexual feminist is now a strident birther who gets **all** her information from Fox News, much to my chagrin. We can no longer discuss politics at all.

I''m so sorry for your loss. Sheesh. I don't think even Hallmark makes a card for this one.

I know, Hon, but since you were quoting me, I had to address it as though you were speaking to me.

And I totally agree. In this for-better/for-worse age of the instant-and-easy internet, my fear is that de yung'uns actually do mistake same-sensibility comedy for hard news.
What the hell would these people do if confronted with George Carlin in this day and age?

Yikes!

I think you guys are missing the point of my even posting in this thread. I know what Beck, Black and Stewart are, and I know what their respective shows are about.

I considered briefly just reporting it as being inappropriate for the Politics forum...but given the recent initiative to refocus this forum, I thought it a good case to illustrate what I see as a huge problem with such discussions, both here and in the broader society.

The underlying message, quite simply, is that posts of this sort don't belong in this forum.

This is the kind of posting that isn't helpful to anyone. It doesn't add anything to this discussion (which is a perfectly valid political vs satire discussion) and only intends to set things in a different direction.

By all means disagree to your hearts content, but lets keep the playground baiting in check guys!

A very sad anti- semitic thread indeed. Complete with the word Nazi in the header. Hitler killed millions of Jews and Polish people. Do Glenn Beck or Comedy Central have any idea how hurtful and anti -semitic this is to Jewish and Polish people? Then Making fun of someone with Tourette's is simply disgusting.

Lol, I don't understand why people get upset over the mentioning of specific words. It's perfectly legitimate to bring up the word Nazi when discussing Glenn Beck's repeated attempt to connect unrelated subjects to the Nazi regime. Saying he has "Nazi Tourette's" isn't even making fun of people with Tourette's syndrome, it's making fun of Beck himself. While it would have been more correct to say that Glenn Beck has Nazi Apophenia, the laugh is kind of lost if everyone is the audience who isn't a psychiatrist has to visit Google to find out what the hell he meant. More people know what Tourette's is, and hence it is more appropriate for a satirical accusation. You could even make the argument that he was speaking specifically about "Nazi Tourette's" which doesn't even exist.

What I personally find disturbing is how many people listen to Glenn Beck and his ilk for news. Look at the swing he made on Healthcare. Video: Glenn Beck's Operation | The Battle for Health Care Reform | The Daily Show | Comedy Central He is obviously just a more charismatic mouthpiece for richer people with a political agenda.

Glenn Beck is not very intelligent but has been painting himself as an intellectual for years now. Many good and honest Americans have fallen prey to his line of hateful bullshit over the years.

He is a swindler, a crook and an out and out liar.

God forbid someone calls him out on his bullshit. He wants to cry wolf about the comparison of the Arizona law to Nazi Germany. He also didn't want anyone to go back and highlight all of the times that he has attempted to wrongly vilify innocuous entities with Nazi slurs.

Glenn Beck has time and time again, tried to apply a Nazi stain to things such as Global Warming and Acorn. His use of the word Socialist as a code for The National Socialist Party is deplorable. The N.S.P wasn't socialist at all, but a politically extremely authoritarian, and economically centrist government.

The Nazi party rose to power with the mask of Socialism but quickly and definitively closed all such ideological discussions of the public or direct worker ownership and administration of production and the allocation of the nation's resources.

Hitler's socialism was a complete charade.

But of course, Beck wouldn't understand that because actual facts and figures are of no concern to him. He relies on an internal source of bullshit for his daily screed.

I know Jews that take a healthy interest in Nazism. They have libraries full of books on Germany and the Third Reich and can bring it up Hitler quite easily in conversation. If Jon Stewart and Lewis Black feel the need to point out the hypocrisy in others, then they have every right to do that. They most likely have relatives that perished in the holocaust and again, have every right to compare and talk about Nazis as they wish.

To say that we can't use Nazi Germany in a comparison to a nation's policies just because they haven't loaded up Jews on trains and exterminated millions of them is a little disingenuous.

Nazi Germany had many specific policies and methods. If a country wants to use policies and methods that have direct parallels to those of the Third Reich, then there should be no issue of the comparison.

If the glove fits, then wear it.

To be honest, Beck is a German-American and has absolutely no right to speak of Nazi Germany like a Jew can. Jews have every right to talk about and compare things to Nazi Germany.

We are a nation of immigrants and the Arizona law is ridiculous on many accounts, it just might be one of the most fascist forms of legislation written in the last ten years.

Checking people's papers was a widely used technique employed by the various fascist regimes throughout history.

Were the Nazis a fascist regime? Yes.

Does the glove fit? Yes.

Well then wear it by all means motherfucker.
